Singer Noo Phuoc Thinh, in high demand for shows at A80, speaks out about his nickname 'VTV Prince'.
Constantly appearing in mainstream music programs of various organizations, singer Noo Phuoc Thinh shared his joy and pride.
I really love revolutionary songs.
- How has your work been lately?
Most music programs during this period are geared towards national holidays and anniversaries. We artists are also busy preparing for these programs, so it's a bit hectic.
- Lately, you've been frequently participating in national-level music programs. What does that mean to you?
I am deeply honored to be invited to perform by these organizations. In the context of important national events, I believe that to further spread patriotism and national pride, we need young talents like artists – those who bring these values closer to the masses through art.
Many familiar revolutionary songs, beloved by generations, are given new arrangements while still retaining their heroic spirit. Whether performed by veteran artists or young singers, they easily resonate with young people. This is evident when young people use these songs in videos, create trends, and spread them widely.

For me, that spread was a resounding success because it wasn't forced or coerced on anyone. With the right approach, young people would embrace it naturally and voluntarily.
While our senior artists have done an excellent job of preserving and passing on cultural traditions through generations, we young artists have a responsibility to inherit and continue this legacy. It's a great responsibility, but it also fills me with renewed enthusiasm.
- In your opinion, what are the reasons why you receive so many invitations?
First, there's the fundamental issue; for example, artists whose vocal tones lean heavily towards pop music will find it difficult to sing patriotic songs with a heroic spirit.
To be honest, I really love revolutionary songs in particular and patriotic music in general. My voice, although it still has flaws and is not yet perfect, is the result of many years of practice. Fortunately, thanks to that, I have enough strength to perform my favorite songs in new versions in my own way.
Of course, there are also opinions that my singing isn't heroic enough. I always listen, absorb feedback, and adjust if necessary.
Noo Phuoc Thinh performed "One Round Around Vietnam" and "Voluntary" at VTV Concert 2025.
- Among the reasons for being in high demand for national shows, you didn't mention a clean, scandal-free image, did you? That's the most important reason!
I read a similar comment on TikTok and it was very heartwarming! Looking back at myself, I live a rather simple, somewhat unsophisticated life, lacking experience in socializing and having fun.
In my career, I'm not very ambitious because I'm afraid that with a big ship comes big waves, so for many years I've just gone home after singing.
Thankfully, I'm doing fine so far, but it's hard to predict what will happen in the life of an artist. What if a scandal erupts tomorrow...?
Inviting Noo Phuoc Thinh is not difficult.
- If you say you love revolutionary songs, patriotic songs, I believe you because I can feel it...
Artists of the previous generation poured their hearts and souls into every piece they performed. They analyzed every word, dissecting the meaning bit by bit, and never sang without understanding the work.
As a younger generation, I always appreciate that spirit. Many times I've hesitated, even refused to sing a song if I didn't feel enough emotion or understanding for it.

Which songs do you like?
I like many things, such as:The girl sharpening stakes, the Saigon girl carrying ammunition, the train passing through the mountains....but I would never dare touch it; at most, I'd just sing along to it myself!
I also like the songHello, my dear girl from Lam Hong.Because People's Artist Trung Đức sings so beautifully, every line is like a drop of water in my ear. He sings so gently, as if without any technique, but when I tried singing it, I realized how difficult it was. I'm sure I'd mess up songs like that.(laugh)
For me, pop music can be sung however you like, even slightly off-key, but revolutionary songs absolutely cannot be.
When I first received the assignmentVoluntaryI discovered that the last line had two variations: "Seeing our brothers stand up and raise the flag high" and "Together with our brothers, we stand up and raise the flag high." It took me and Duc Tuan a long time to find the handwritten copy so we could sing the original lyrics correctly.
For me, that's the first principle for an artist to be able to connect with revolutionary and patriotic music. With classic songs, singing even one word wrong can change the meaning.
- How do you demonstrate your support for programs like these? And what about smaller-scale programs run by agencies, departments, and organizations?
It's an honor for the artists to even appear on stage; we just wait to be called. The fees we receive are usually just enough to cover travel expenses, dancers, etc., but that's not a problem.
It's not difficult to get us to participate. There was a program on August 10th.Festival for a Peaceful Capital CityIt was organized by the Hanoi City Police, and you knew I was only invited to participate a few days beforehand? So, was it easy or difficult to invite me?
For smaller-scale programs organized by agencies and units, I think they rarely invite showbiz artists because they already have their own pool of artists in that field.
- Over the past time, you've been given many nicknames by the audience, such as "VTV Crown Prince," "Patriotic Poet," etc. Which one best describes you?
Anything is fine, as long as I am a patriotic Vietnamese citizen and an artist who can contribute to important national events.
