Meaningful activities on War Invalids and Martyrs Day
(Baonghean.vn) -On July 27, localities and units in Nghe An province held many meaningful and practical gratitude activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day.
* Carry out the work of gratitude, Party and peopleQuynh Luu districthas always strived to take care of both material and spiritual needs of those who have contributed to the revolution. From 2013 to 2017, the "Repaying gratitude" fund at the district and commune levels was nearly 10 billion VND. 218 new houses were built, 252 houses of gratitude were repaired... The district People's Committee also allocated the budget to give gifts to 3,653 relatives of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and resistance fighters who died from chemical agents with a total amount of more than 502 million VND...

Currently, in the district, there are no poor households with meritorious services. Most policy families have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average standard of living in the residential area.
On this occasion, the District Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs received a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs for its outstanding achievements in the emulation movement for labor, society and meritorious people in 2016. The People's Committee of Quynh Luu district awarded certificates of merit to 6 collectives with outstanding achievements in the work of gratitude and 16 outstanding individuals.
At the ceremony, leaders of Quynh Luu district also directly presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers Dang Thi Lai and Tran Thi Ly, pre-uprising cadre Tran Dinh Tuong and presented 128 gifts to families of outstanding meritorious people. Each gift included money and gifts worth 500,000 VND.

*Leaders of Nghia Dan districtvisited and presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mother Ngo Thi Tiep in Binh Hai hamlet and wounded soldier 2/3 Nguyen Mau Thanh in Binh Thai hamlet, Nghia Binh commune. Here, the district leaders expressed their deep gratitude for the sacrifices and great contributions of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and wounded soldiers for the independence and freedom of the nation; at the same time, encouraged the families to overcome difficulties and continue to promote the revolutionary tradition in the cause of building the homeland. The delegation presented gifts worth 1 million VND to each family.

* In Tan Ky district,Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nghe An Provincejust held a meeting with cadres and typical victims in the Association's work on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day and the 56th anniversary of "Vietnam Agent Orange Disaster".

According to a survey, currently the whole province has about 30 thousand people exposed to Agent Orange, includingOver 17 thousand people have received state subsidies. Over the years, the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims at all levels from the provincial to the grassroots levels has actively mobilized support from organizations and individuals to help victims and their families improve their lives.
At the meeting, delegates discussed the advantages and difficulties of the Association's work in recent times, and at the same time hoped that the whole society would continue to care for and help people infected with Agent Orange/dioxin to improve their lives.

Offering a basket of fresh flowers, the delegation respectfully bowed and lit incense sticks to commemorate the 33 heroic martyrs and youth volunteers of the industry who sacrificed their lives on April 28, 1966 on the Hoang Mai - Cau Cam railway line for the cause of transportation during the years of resistance war against the US to save the country.
On this occasion, the Railway industry and the Railway Construction Corporation visited and presented gifts to families of war invalids and martyrs, and families with meritorious services to the revolution in Nghe An and Thanh Hoa.

*Delegation of Kim Lien Relic Siteincluding: representatives of the Party Committee, Board of Directors, Trade Union, Youth, and Veterans organized a flower offering ceremony at the martyrs' cemeteries: Kim Lien, Nam Giang, Le Hong Son (Xuan Hoa commune), 12/9 (Hung Nguyen), and Nam Dan district martyrs' cemetery.
On the same day, the delegation returned to Truong Bon National Monument to offer incense in gratitude to 1,240 heroic martyrs - beloved children of the heroic Soviet homeland and of many provinces and cities across the country who devoted their youth to the cause of liberating the South and unifying the country.

On this occasion, the staff of Kim Lien Relic Site donated 7 million VND to support the construction of Kim Lien Commune Martyrs Cemetery and contributed 5 million VND to the Gratitude Fund of the Department of Culture and Sports.

Along with medical examinations, the team also distributed free medicine with a total value of more than 4 million VND. Mother Nguyen Thi Coi (commonly known as Mother Mieng) is 102 years old this year. Her son is martyr Nguyen Thai Chat, who died on October 14, 1972 in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. In order to share the sacrifices and losses of her mother, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Do Luong Branch, supported 30 million VND to help her rebuild a new house. The funds were taken from the Social Charity Fund of the Branch in Do Luong.
Also during this period, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development presented 9 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to families of martyrs.

*Tan Ky District Policeorganized a visit and gave gifts to 11 members of the Tan Ky District Police Union who are war invalids and relatives of war invalids and martyrs.
