Meaningful activities on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day

(Baonghean.vn) -On July 27th, localities and units throughout Nghe An province carried out many meaningful and practical activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs.

* In carrying out the work of showing gratitude and repaying kindness, the Party Committee and the peopleQuynh Luu districtThe district has always strived to care for the material and spiritual well-being of those who have contributed to the revolution. From 2013 to 2017, the district and commune-level "Gratitude and Repayment" fund collected nearly 10 billion VND. 218 new houses were built, and 252 houses of gratitude were repaired... The district People's Committee also allocated budget to give gifts to 3,653 individuals who are relatives of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and resistance fighters who were exposed to chemical toxins and have passed away, with a total amount exceeding 502 million VND...

Currently, there are no longer any impoverished families of war veterans in the district. Most families receiving preferential treatment have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average standard of living in their residential areas.

On this occasion, the District Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs received a Certificate of Commendation from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs for its outstanding achievements in the labor, social and meritorious service emulation movement in 2016. The People's Committee of Quynh Luu District awarded certificates of merit to 6 collectives with outstanding achievements in the work of showing gratitude and repaying kindness, and 16 exemplary individuals with meritorious service.

At the ceremony, the leaders of Quynh Luu district also directly presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers Dang Thi Lai and Tran Thi Ly, pre-revolutionary cadre Tran Dinh Tuong, and 128 gift packages to exemplary families of meritorious individuals. Each gift package included money and gifts worth 500,000 VND.

*Nghia Dan District LeadersThe delegation visited and presented gifts to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Ngo Thi Tiep in Binh Hai hamlet and war invalid Nguyen Mau Thanh in Binh Thai hamlet, Nghia Binh commune. Here, the district leaders expressed their deep gratitude for the great sacrifices and contributions of the Heroic Vietnamese Mother and war invalids for the independence and freedom of the nation; they also encouraged the families to overcome difficulties and continue to uphold the revolutionary tradition in the cause of building their homeland. The delegation presented gifts worth 1 million VND to each family.

* In Tan Ky district,Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nghe An ProvinceThe association recently held a meeting with exemplary officials and victims involved in its work to commemorate the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day and the 56th anniversary of the "Agent Orange Disaster in Vietnam".

According to surveys, there are currently about 30,000 people in the province who have been exposed to Agent Orange, including:Over 17,000 people have received state subsidies. In recent years, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange and Dioxin at all levels, from provincial to grassroots, has actively mobilized support from organizations and individuals to help victims and their families improve their lives.

At the meeting, delegates discussed the advantages and difficulties of the Association's work in the past period, and expressed their hope that the whole society would continue to pay attention to and help those affected by Agent Orange/dioxin to overcome difficulties and improve their lives.

* At the Hoang Mai Railway Martyrs' Cemetery and National Historical Site,Delegation of the Vietnam Railway Construction Corporation(Vietnam Railways) visited to offer incense and pay respects to the martyrs of the railway industry who sacrificed their lives for the cause of transportation.

Offering fresh flowers, the delegation respectfully bowed and lit incense sticks in remembrance of the 33 heroic martyrs, young volunteer workers of the industry, who sacrificed their lives on April 28, 1966, on the Hoàng Mai - Cầu Cấm railway line during the years of resistance against the US and for national liberation.

On this occasion, the railway industry and the Vietnam Railway Construction Corporation organized visits and presented gifts to families of wounded soldiers and martyrs, and families who have made contributions to the revolution in the Nghe An and Thanh Hoa areas.

*Delegation from Kim Lien Historical SiteRepresentatives from the Party Committee, Board of Directors, Trade Union, Youth Union, and Veterans' Association organized a visit to lay flowers and offer incense at the following martyrs' cemeteries: Kim Lien, Nam Giang, Le Hong Son (Xuan Hoa commune), 12/9 (Hung Nguyen), and the Nam Dan district martyrs' cemetery.

On the same day, the delegation visited the Truông Bồn National Historical Site to offer incense and pay tribute to 1,240 heroic martyrs – beloved sons and daughters of the heroic Soviet homeland and from many provinces and cities across the country who dedicated their youth to the struggle for the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.

Later that afternoon, the delegation visited and presented gifts to 16 families of policy beneficiaries within the agency and to Mrs. Phan Thi Hoa, a Vietnamese Heroic Mother from Mau 2 hamlet, Kim Lien commune.

On this occasion, the staff of the Kim Lien Historical Site donated 7 million VND to support the construction of the Kim Lien Martyrs' Cemetery; and contributed 5 million VND to the Gratitude Fund of the Department of Culture and Sports.

* At the Quỳnh Châu Commune Health Station,215th BrigadeThey organized free medical examinations and provided free medicine to 100 people.belonging to families entitled to preferential policies, those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution, and victims of Agent Orange in Quynh Chau commune.(Quynh Luu).

Along with medical examinations, the team also distributed free medicine worth over 4 million VND. In addition, the medical team from the infirmary of Brigade 215 advised those who came for examinations on their health conditions and guided them on effective treatment methods.

This is a practical activity that demonstrates the essence and fine traditions of our Army, contributing to strengthening the close-knit solidarity with the local government, organizations, and people where the unit is stationed; and further enhancing the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the hearts of the people.

Party Committee, Board of DirectorsMilitary Hospital 4The hospital organized visits and presented 138 gifts to wounded soldiers and relatives of martyrs receiving treatment at the hospital, each gift worth 300,000 VND. The members of the Board of Directors expressed their gratitude to the wounded soldiers and relatives of martyrs, showing their deep appreciation for the immense sacrifices of the heroic martyrs and those who contributed to the revolution...

On the same day, the Youth UnionVietnam Development Bank (Nghe An Branch)) in coordination withYouth Union branch of Military Hospital 4The organization presented 10 gift packages to wounded soldiers and family members of martyrs currently receiving treatment at Military Hospital 4, each package worth 500,000 VND.

*Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, Do Luong BranchA ceremony was held to inaugurate and hand over a house of gratitude to the mother of fallen soldier Nguyen Thi Coi in Yen The hamlet, Yen Son commune.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Coi (commonly known as Mrs. Mieng) is 102 years old this year. Her son, Nguyen Thai Chat, was a martyr who died on October 14, 1972, in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. To share in her sacrifice and loss, the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, Do Luong Branch, has provided 30 million VND to help her rebuild her house. The funds were drawn from the branch's social charity fund in Do Luong.

Also during this period, the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank presented 9 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to the families of fallen soldiers.

*Tan Ky District PoliceThe Tan Ky District Police Union organized visits and presented gifts to 11 union members who are war invalids or relatives of war invalids and martyrs. With the desire to express gratitude and support to the union members, the union presented gifts totaling 3.3 million VND to the union members. On this occasion, the Tan Ky District Police Union also held a ceremony to offer incense at the district's Martyrs' Cemetery.
