Mr. Tran Van Phu, owner of a flower and ornamental plant nursery in Kim Phuc flower village, Nghi An commune (Vinh City), said: “We have two wholesale and retail flower and ornamental plant businesses serving customers in the province and in Thanh Hoa and Quang Binh provinces. This year, flowers are scarce due to heavy rains and storms in early September and October. Therefore, in addition to finding domestic flower suppliers, we contacted Chinese traders to import many types of flowers such as camellias and begonias… to meet customer demand.” (Photo: Vinh City)

In areas where ornamental plants are grown, people are actively tending to their flowers. During the day, they water and weed, and at night, they use lights to encourage the flowers to bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year). Photo: TP

This year, due to a shortage of supply, the price of flower seedlings has increased, and chrysanthemums are being affected by pests and diseases, making cultivation difficult. According to flower growers' predictions, the price of chrysanthemums will increase this year due to rising input costs. Photo: TP

Mr. Nguyen Duy Tho, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghi An commune (Vinh City), said: “Nghi An has three flower and ornamental plant villages: Kim Phuc, Kim My, and Kim Chi, with about 100 households engaged in the trade. In recent years, in addition to growing traditional flowers such as chrysanthemums and diamond chrysanthemums, people have also introduced many new, high-yield varieties such as magic chrysanthemums, colored chrysanthemums, and peonies… Besides that, most households have switched to trading flowers and ornamental plants and providing landscaping and garden decoration services, bringing in high income.”
