How to handle when the car suddenly accelerates

1. Brake hard

No need to think too much, as soon as the car suddenly accelerates, you need to step on the brake pedal hard to reduce speed. Do not release or rub the brake because doing so will make the brake pads very hot and you will not be able to control the speed of the car. Use all your force to step on the brake pedal because the throttle is still high so you need a corresponding force to be able to reduce speed.

If one foot is not enough to brake, use both feet. Note, braking hard enough to cause the car to turn, you need to hold the steering wheel firmly to avoid being thrown into obstacles on the road.

2.Quickly shift to N/clutch cut

The next step is to stop the engine from sending power to the drive wheels. On an automatic car, you need to quickly shift the gear to N "mo". If the accelerator pedal is stuck, the engine will reach extremely high rpm and make noise.

Don't worry about the engine being damaged, because the car's computer has a system that automatically limits the engine when the rpm reaches too high. Shifting the gear to N mode will prevent the engine from transmitting power to the wheels, but the power steering and brake assist will work normally, helping you control the car more easily.

Meanwhile, for manual transmission cars, things are much simpler, you just need to press the clutch and the car will slow down.

3.Turn off the machine immediately if possible

Basically, after performing the above 2 steps, you have escaped the dangerous situation. However, to ensure maximum safety, you should turn off the engine completely by holding the Start/Stop button for 3 seconds on modern cars, or turn off the key. Note that when the engine is turned off, the brake assist will be cut off, making the brake pedal heavier.

To ensure maximum safety, you need to pull the vehicle to the side of the road and absolutely do not drive until the cause of the stuck throttle is discovered and handled.
