(Baonghean.vn) - Defendant Ngo Thi Ha confessed that she intended to buy firecrackers to set off on New Year's Eve for fun. Additionally, she planned to sell them to anyone who wanted them in order to recoup her investment.

On the morning of March 28, the Thai Hoa Town People's Court tried the criminal case against defendant Ngo Thi Ha (born in 1974), residing in Dong Tam 2 block, Hoa Hieu ward, Thai Hoa town, for illegally possessing 17.6 kg of firecrackers.

According to the indictment, at approximately 6:30 PM on January 22, 2018, Ngo Thi Ha called Luong Van Tuong (born in 1974), residing in Quyet Thang Hamlet, Hoa Hieu Ward, Thai Hoa Town, to hire a vehicle to go to the Yen Ly intersection area in Dien Chau District with the intention of buying firecrackers for use during the 2018 Lunar New Year, but without informing Mr. Tuong.

After Mr. Tuong drove Ha to Yen Ly, Ha got out of the car for a while, found and bought 15 boxes of firecrackers from a man (whose name, age, and address are unknown) at a price of 150,000 VND per box, totaling 2,250,000 VND.

After purchasing the fireworks, Ngo Thi Ha put them all into two sacks and placed them on the back seat of the car, telling Luong Van Tuong to drive them back to Thai Hoa town.

At approximately 7:45 PM, when the vehicle arrived in the area belonging to the hospital neighborhood, Nghia My commune, Thai Hoa town, it was stopped by the task force for inspection.

The inspection revealed that the first bag contained 5 rectangular boxes, each containing 9 cylindrical firecrackers linked together; the second bag contained 10 boxes of firecrackers, each containing 36 cylindrical firecrackers linked together.

The task force proceeded to draw up a report on the arrest of the offender, seized the evidence, and escorted the suspect to the police station for further investigation.

On January 23, 2018, the Investigation Police Department of Thai Hoa town issued decision No. 13 requesting expert examination, and on January 26, 2018, the PC 54 Department of Nghe An Provincial Police concluded that the boxes seized from Ngo Thi Ha were all firecrackers.

Therefore, Ngo Thi Ha's actions constituted the crime of "Possessing prohibited goods," and she was prosecuted by the Thai Hoa Town People's Procuracy under Clause 1, Article 155 of the Penal Code.

In court, defendant Ngo Thi Ha confessed that she intended to buy fireworks to set off on New Year's Eve for fun. Additionally, she planned to sell them to anyone who wanted them in order to recoup her investment. She expressed deep remorse and hoped for a reduced sentence so she could be reunited with her family soon.

At the conclusion of the trial, the Panel of Judges of the Thai Hoa Town People's Court sentenced the defendant Ngo Thi Ha to 15 months of suspended imprisonment and a probationary period of 30 months for the crime of "Possessing prohibited goods".
