According to the indictment, at around 11 p.m. on January 18, 2017, Vu Dinh Duc Anh went to his girlfriend’s house on Vinh Hoi Street, District 4 to play. Upon arrival, Duc Anh parked his motorbike in front of the house of Mr. Tran Minh Chanh (49 years old; neighbor) and stood talking to his girlfriend. A moment later, Duc Anh and his girlfriend had a conflict that led to a loud argument.
Mr. Chanh heard the loud noise so he went out to ask what happened and then an argument broke out with Duc Anh. Mr. Chanh hit Duc Anh and the young man hit him back.
At this time, Nguyen Van Tuan (Mr. Chanh's nephew) and Tran Minh Tam (Mr. Chanh's son) saw their family members being beaten and immediately ran out to help. Tuan took an iron rod and hit Duc Anh on the head and left thigh.
Duc Anh ran to a nearby noodle shop, grabbed a knife and chased after the other person. Seeing that, Mr. Chanh ran to stop him but was stabbed by Duc Anh, causing him to die shortly after due to a punctured heart and multiple injuries.
After committing the crime, Duc Anh fled and was quickly arrested by the police.
