Oranges are a highly profitable crop in Nghe An.

(Baonghean.vn) - With an average selling price of 30,000 VND/kg at the orchard, 1 hectare of oranges in Nghe An province achieves a revenue of 405 million VND, with a profit of nearly 300 million VND.

According to an analysis by Nghe An's agricultural sector, the revenue from 1 hectare of oranges in Nghe An is at least 405 million VND (at a selling price of 30,000 VND/kg), while if sold at double that price, the revenue reaches 810 million VND/ha/year. Meanwhile, the production cost for 1 hectare of oranges is 120 million VND. After deducting expenses, the minimum profit per hectare is nearly 300 million VND/year.

Specifically: The direct cost of producing 1 hectare of oranges is 120 million VND. This includes: Care costs (fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation): 70 million VND, labor costs: 30 million VND, other costs: 20 million VND.

Total revenue: Production of 13.5 tons, average selling price of 30,000 VND/kg (30 million VND/ton), product value (revenue) reached 405 million VND/ha. Profit earned was 285 million VND. If the average selling price decreased to 20,000 VND, a profit of 150 million VND could still be earned.

However, current market prices, especially during the Lunar New Year, are two or three times higher than the average selling price. If we consider the price to be double, at 60,000 VND/kg, then one hectare of oranges yields a profit of 690 million VND/hectare. This is the highest profit margin for industrial crop cultivation in Nghe An province today.

Nghe An province is planning to develop citrus fruit cultivation, primarily oranges, increasing production from 48,000 tons (2015) to over 87,000 tons by 2020, achieving a production value of 2,610 billion VND. It is projected that by 2020, Nghe An will export approximately 15,000 tons of oranges.

The province has also developed concentrated citrus fruit growing areas, contributing to the transformation of crop structure towards high efficiency and sustainability, most notably in Quy Hop, Con Cuong, and Nghia Dan districts.
