(Baonghean.vn) -That was the issue emphasized at the 8th National Conference on Thai Studies held in Con Cuong, Nghe An. This is alsois a rare opportunity for scientists and Thai culture lovers to discuss the Thai community and the Tay - Thai language family.
Attending the conference were comrades: Phan Van Hung - Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee; Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee.
The National Conference on Thai Hoc Vietnam took place on June 24 and 25 in Con Cuong district - Nghe An. The issues of forest protection, water resources, creating livelihoods for ethnic minority people, developing community tourism... are topics of interest at the 8th National Conference on Thai Hoc Vietnam.

The National Conference on Thai Studies is held every two years by the Vietnam Thai Studies Program. This program was founded in 1989 and is affiliated with the Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Sciences with the role of researching the Thai community and the Kadai group including ethnic groups of the same Tay - Thai language family such as: Tay Nung, Pu Péo, Giay, Lu... The theme of this Conference is "Promoting the role of the identity of the Thai - Kadai ethnic community in integration and sustainable development.

There were 25 presentations by leading ethnologists and non-specialists nationwide in many fields discussing the communities of the Thai, Tay, Nung, Lu, Pu Peo ethnic groups... including issues of concern such as indigenous knowledge in preserving forests and water resources. The integration of resettled communities under the Son La Hydropower Plant...
The presentations also focused on issues such as community tourism development, preserving national cultural identity, the contribution of clan chiefs to the development of mountainous society, and the creation of livelihoods for people through crop rotation practices.

Nghe An delegation had 7 presentations at the conference. The presentations focused on issues such as community tourism development, the current situation and issues in the use of natural resources, and creating livelihoods from intercropping and shifting cultivation practices of the Thai community.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Minh Thong - Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said: The Thai people in Nghe An currently have about 324,000 people, this is an ethnic minority community with diverse and rich cultural characteristics. The Thai people are also a community with the ability to breathe new life into nature. That ability is thanks to the rich history and culture of this community. Therefore, the preservation and promotion of the cultural values of the Thai people must always be promoted, contributing to enriching the diversity of Vietnamese ethnic culture./.
