In recent days of heavy rain, in addition to many flooded roads, landslides have also occurred in many locations in Vinh City, the most serious of which is the area at the foot of Dung Quyet Mountain, running along Ngo Thi Nham Street, Trung Do Ward. In just a short time, tons of rocks and soil collapsed on households living at the foot of Dung Quyet Mountain. Fortunately, the people narrowly escaped. Photo: Quang An |

Ms. Thai Thi Hai, residing in Block 3, Trung Do Ward, is still in shock after the rocks and soil suddenly fell on her house. Ms. Hai said: "This is the family's bed, located right at the foot of Dung Quyet Mountain. Luckily, it was still early, we were not resting yet, otherwise we would have been crushed by this block of rocks and concrete, unable to escape...". Photo: Quang An |

Next to Mrs. Hai's house, giant rocks also crashed into Mr. Dau Doan Khanh's house, causing the wall to collapse and many items to be severely damaged. Photo: Quang An |

According to Trung Do ward authorities, the amount of rock and soil that fell was too large, while the ground layer was weak due to long-term rain, and it was impossible to mobilize machinery to clear it at this time because it could easily cause another landslide. The rocks were still hanging on the mountainside. Photo: Quang An |

According to the reporter's observation, the risk of landslides is still very high, because along the body of Dung Quyet mountain, each block of rock has been clearly cracked, just need more heavy rains to continue to collapse. Photo: Quang An |

According to statistics from Trung Do ward, up to now, 28 households are at risk of landslides, concentrated in blocks 2 and 3. Of these, 12 households are at high risk. Currently, the locality has mobilized people to evacuate, many households have proactively packed up their belongings and left to find safe shelter after this storm. Photo: Quang An |

It is known that in recent years, households living at the foot of Dung Quyet mountain have wished for a resettlement area to live and work in peace, to reduce the worry of the rainy and stormy season, but so far it has not been possible. Photo: Quang An |

After checking and grasping the situation, Vinh City leaders directed Trung Do ward and functional forces to immediately evacuate people and property of households at risk of landslides to safe shelters; close doors, set up barriers and put up warning signs not allowing people to pass through landslide areas; assign forces to be on duty 24/7 to handle incidents... In the long term, to ensure the safety of people during the rainy and stormy season, Trung Do ward hopes that competent authorities will speed up the adjustment of the detailed planning of Dung Quyet Mountain Park; implement the project to build a resettlement area for Dung Quyet Mountain Park (5.5 hectares) so that households in the area at risk of landslides and rockslides on Dung Quyet Mountain can move to a new place and stabilize their lives.
