According to police documents, at approximately 9:30 PM on January 26th (the night of the second day of Tet), a group of individuals including Nguyen Van An (born 1994), Nguyen Van Hung (born 1993), and Nguyen Van Hiep (born 1992), all residing in Hamlet 5, Quynh Yen Commune, went out. While passing by Mr. Ha's house, they encountered several young men sitting by the roadside who were friends of Mr. Ha's son. An argument ensued between the two groups, leading to a physical altercation. Both sides had been drinking alcohol beforehand.
Seeing the situation escalating, Nguyen Van Hiep fled, while An and Hung were brutally beaten by the group of young men. At this point, Mr. Ha and Mr. Nguyen Chau (Hung's father) rushed in to intervene, but Mr. Chau was also attacked by the group. Angered by the beating, and already intoxicated, Mr. Chau went into the house to get a weapon.
At the same time, An and Hung ran into Hung's house. An went outside after grabbing a knife and a piece of wood, while Hung also brought an iron crowbar. An also called his cousin, Nguyen Van Thung, for help. After receiving the call, Thung came out with a knife. At this moment, Nguyen Van Binh (Hung's older brother), hearing that his father and younger brother had been beaten, immediately ran to Mr. Ha's house to inquire about what had happened.
Hung rushed out with a crowbar and, upon seeing Chu Quang Trung (born 1991), residing in Hamlet 9, Quynh Yen Commune, the person who had just assaulted him, struck Trung twice with the crowbar, hitting him in the shoulder and head. Hung then attacked Nguyen Van Hoa, injuring him and causing him to collapse on the roadside. Hoa was then hit in the leg by a knife thrown by An while trying to escape. Hung was restrained by bystanders, who confiscated his weapon, and he returned home. Meanwhile, Binh and Thung attacked Trung with knives, injuring him in the hand and head. Additionally, Binh also attacked Dau Duc Thach, injuring him.
Upon receiving reports from residents, the Quỳnh Lưu District Police promptly arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the incident, arresting the suspects immediately that night. They also conducted immediate medical examinations of the victims' injuries to provide grounds for prosecution. At the police station, the suspects confessed to their actions. They also stated that they had been drinking alcohol beforehand and were unable to control their behavior.
Due to multiple stab wounds, victims Chu Quang Trung, Nguyen Van Hoa, and Dau Duc Thach were transferred to Nghe An Friendship General Hospital for treatment. The injury assessment concluded that Trung suffered 14% disability, Thach 13%, and Hoa 5%.
