Warning of calls impersonating Electricity Company employees to scam customers

(Baonghean.vn) - The Customer Care Center - Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) received feedback from a number of customers about people claiming to be employees of the Power Corporation calling customers with the purpose of affecting the reputation of the Electricity industry or committing fraud.

Recently, the Northern Electricity Customer Care Center (Northern Electricity Corporation - EVNNPC) has received many complaints about customers receiving calls claiming to be electricity employees providing information that the electricity company incorrectly calculated the electricity bill during the period of changing the meter reading schedule to the last days of the month, so they should contact to refund the % according to the bill, or pay the excess electricity bill to the customer.

The Northern Power Corporation said that when receiving notices of power outages, customers should call the customer care center to check.

Specifically, customers received calls from phone number 02207779998, introducing themselves as electricity employees, asking customers to send electricity bills to confirm information on electricity payment, with the reason being that the electricity company miscalculated the electricity bill during the period of changing the Index Calendar to the last days of the month.

In some cases, customers received calls from the phone number 02227779923 asking to provide electricity bills for January, February and March to receive a refund of 10% - 15% according to the bill on the total consumption in 2023 and 2024. The reason for receiving the refund is that the Electricity Company is having a program to support customers on electricity bills.

After receiving the call, the scammers sent a friend request via Zalo and asked the customer to send the electricity bill information for verification. They then instructed the customer to update their profile through the Electricity Corporation (EVN) information to receive their money back via a strange link or website, or instructed the customer to install an application (app) on their phone to update their profile.

In response to the information reported, EVNNPC affirms that the above-mentioned individuals are impersonating electricity employees and providing completely untrue information. All notifications from EVNNPC are sent to customers through the following forms:

* SMS message: Is an identification message of the Electricity Company.

* Zalo message: Sender is Zalo OA page of Northern Power Corporation.

* Customer Service Center Email:[email protected]

* Fanpage of Customer Service Center: Northern Electricity

In order to prevent impersonation and fraudulent acts that affect the reputation of the Electricity industry, EVNNPC respectfully requests that customers be vigilant, not provide personal information, not access strange links, ... when receiving messages impersonating the Electricity industry from Zalo, Telegram, Messenger, Viber, ...
