Warming patches should not be used, especially on children, because children's skin is very thin and if applied, it will be difficult for heat to escape...

For the past few days, Hanoi has experienced intensely cold weather, with temperatures dropping sharply, sometimes below 6 degrees Celsius. To keep children warm, many people have sought out warming patches. However, according to health experts, frequent use of warming patches can negatively impact children's health.

To cope with the cold weather in recent days, many people in Hanoi have been buying heat patches to keep warm, especially families with elderly people and children. Many people believe that heat patches are very convenient for warming children in winter because they warm the body quickly, are compact, and easy to use, so they are quite popular.

Currently, the market price for a pack of 5 heat patches ranges from 50,000 VND to 150,000 VND per pack, depending on the manufacturer. There are two types of heat patches for cold weather: adhesive and non-adhesive. Generally, people prefer the adhesive type.

Heat patches are advertised and sold on the market.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, residing in Hoan Kiem district, said: "Hearing from friends that it's convenient, I decided to buy some heat patches to put on my child before going to school. I mainly put them on my child to protect them from the cold weather and to prevent them from catching a cold due to the weather."

However, due to the overuse of these warming patches by many people, unfortunate consequences have occurred for children, such as skin redness, blistering, peeling, or paleness. Health experts recommend using heat patches only when absolutely necessary, for both adults and children.

Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Head of the Pediatrics Department at Bach Mai Hospital, said: "All types of warming patches only provide a feeling of warmth, but they don't keep you warm enough. Because the patches only cover a specific area, but our skin can still release heat, so to keep the whole body warm you need to wear warm clothes, socks, and a hat. Applying a patch to just one spot is ineffective."

I advise against using warming patches, especially on children, because their skin is very thin. If a patch is applied, it won't allow air to escape, and poor skin respiration can be dangerous. Therefore, doctors worldwide generally do not recommend the use of these patches on the skin.
