Warning about impersonating tax officials to commit fraud during tax settlement

Recently, there has been a situation where the subjectimpersonating tax officer, tax authorities to scam, especially during peak tax settlement months and there have been some cases of traps.

The main method of these subjects is to impersonate tax officers to make phone calls, send messages, add friends on Zalo, provide links and guide taxpayers to pay taxes, and guide them to install software that impersonates tax authority applications, in order to steal personal information, bank account information, and appropriate property.

Notably, there are subjects who impersonate authorities and send links to public services VneID, from there, take control of the phone and steal all the money in it.bank account.

The General Department of Taxation once again affirms that it does not authorize any organization or individual outside the tax sector to collect on its behalf; at the same time, it warns that taxpayers who receive such calls should carefully check the content, not rush to respond or follow the instructions in the message, and contact the tax authority directly through the official channel for support, to avoid being taken advantage of by scammers.

Taxpayers note, the official website of the tax authority uses the protocol“https”and Vietnam national domain name ".vn”. (The General Department of Taxation's website has the domain name: https://www.gdt.gov.vn).

The General Department of Taxation recommends that in cases of receiving messages, calls on social networking platforms and calls with signs of fraud, it is necessary to save evidence (such as messages or call recordings), report to telecommunications enterprises for handling, and at the same time, provide evidence to the competent authorities of the Ministry of Public Security and the nearest tax authority to request handling of the violations of the subjects.

5 tricks that scammers often use

- The subjects used phone numbers and claimed to be tax officials, requested information, sent citizen identification images to receive support and instructions on tax reduction procedures, tax refunds, tax settlements and to serve inspection work as well as calls to instruct on installing applications (Apps) to receive information from tax authorities.

- Fraudsters fake websites with interfaces similar to those of agencies and businesses, from images to content, so that users mistakenly believe it is the website of the supplier.

- Tricks to fake SMS messages with the brand name of the General Department of Taxation to spread fake messages.

- Impersonating tax authorities to make threatening phone calls, using fraudulent tricks to appropriate taxpayers' assets.

- Impersonating a competent authority to support public services and requesting information, sending citizen identification images, then, the subject sends fake links and instructions to take control of the phone and take all the money in the bank account.
