According to the new regulations, on what grounds are traffic police allowed to stop vehicles for inspection and control? This is a question of concern to Mr. Le Nguyen (Thai Hoa, Nghe An).

Reply:According to Article 66 of the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, traffic police are authorized to stop vehicles for inspection and control when one of the following grounds exists:

- Upon detecting or having grounds to determine that a violation of the law has occurred, concerning road traffic order and safety or other laws;

- Acting on orders and patrol/control plans from competent authorities to detect violations of laws on road traffic order and safety that can only be detected by stopping vehicles for inspection and control;

- Serving to protect national security, ensure social order and safety, and combat crime; prevent and mitigate natural disasters; prevent, fight, and rescue fires; and prevent and control epidemics;

- There are reports, denunciations, feedback, suggestions, and requests from agencies, organizations, and individuals regarding crimes and other violations of the law.
