Market outlook for the end of 2026: Supply increases, prices cool down.

A recent survey published by Reuters on March 25th forecasts that the prices of arabica and robusta futures contracts on the ICE exchange will cool down significantly between now and the end of the year. The main reason stems from increased production in Brazil combined with a lack of improvement in demand, creating significant pressure for prices to fall.

A group of 11 analysts estimates that the price of arabica coffee will fall to $2.25 per pound by the end of the year, 29% lower than the $3.1785 per pound recorded on March 24th. If this scenario unfolds as predicted, the price would represent a 35% decline compared to the end of 2025.

For robusta coffee, the predicted price is around $2,500 per ton by the end of the year. This represents a 31% decrease compared to the $3,662 mark on March 24th and a 36% drop compared to the end of 2025.

Supply from major players surges.

Experts believe that Brazil – the world's number one coffee producer – will have a bumper crop in the 2026-2027 season (starting in July). Average production is estimated to reach 74 million bags (60 kg each), a surplus of 10 million bags compared to the previous season.

On the Vietnamese side – the world's second-largest producer – output is expected to remain stable. The 2026-2027 harvest, running from October this year to September next year, is expected to yield 31 million bags, matching the performance of the previous harvest.

Brazil's breakthrough will dramatically alter the global supply and demand landscape. Analysts estimate the market will record a surplus of up to 8.7 million bags in the 2026-2027 crop year, a far cry from the modest 1 million bags of the 2025-2026 crop year.

Potential risks that cannot be ignored.

Despite abundant supply, survey participants warned that several variables could reverse the situation. Brazil is not yet fully out of winter, and any risk of frost threatening agricultural areas has the potential to shift price trends. Furthermore, geopolitical tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran also pose a significant risk.

Carlos Mera, head of coffee analysis at Rabobank, shared: "The situation in the Middle East is significant enough to impact the supply chain on multiple fronts, from fertilizer costs and transportation to roasting prices."

"However, compared to many other commodities, coffee farmers are unlikely to rush to cut back on fertilizers because the current selling price is still significantly higher than the production cost," added Carlos Mera.
