Previously, on May 19th, the Criminal Police Department, C45 (Ministry of Public Security) caught Lien and Nguyen (the couple) and Nguyet (their housekeeper) red-handed receiving and distributing lottery slips faxed from their accomplices.
Police seized 123 handwritten and faxed lottery slips; 5 notebooks containing lottery numbers; 6 fax machines; 80 million VND; over 4,000 USD; and 2 savings passbooks with a total of over 530 million VND.
Following a swift investigation, C45 simultaneously arrested Hai, Nghia, Hong, and Thanh, who were key members of this network.
As for Nguyet, she had only been hired three days prior to receive faxes for Lien and Nguyen, so she was released on bail and prohibited from leaving her place of residence.
According to authorities, Lien and Nguyen had been involved in this illegal lottery ring for a long time. Every day, the couple profited illegally between 350 and 450 million VND.
C45 is currently investigating the number of gamblers in various provinces and cities involved in the ring.
