The couple, recently released from prison, once again went out to steal property.
Cuong drove his wife around looking for vulnerable targets to steal from. Before leaving, they clearly divided their roles: Cuong drove and acted as a lookout while his wife stole the property.
The police in Dong Da district, Hanoi, are currently holding a married couple, Pham Thi Lan (born in 1966) and Nguyen Dinh Cuong (born in 1969), both residing at 15/53/459 Bach Mai Street, Bach Mai Ward, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, on charges of "theft of property".
According to the investigating agency, at approximately 7:30 PM on December 20th, Cuong was driving his wife, Pham Thi Lan, on a black Honda Wave motorcycle without license plates from their home to Chua Boc Street in Dong Da District with the intention of stealing property.
The two had planned it beforehand; Cuong's role was to drive and keep watch while his wife carried out the theft.

At approximately 9:20 PM that same day, Lan spotted Ms. PTM (born in 1997, from Thai Binh province) looking at clothes in front of house number 57-59 on Chua Boc street. Lan got off her motorbike and approached Ms. Mai, waiting for an opportunity to steal her belongings. Meanwhile, Cuong stood about 10 meters away on his motorbike.
Seeing Ms. M distracted, Lan secretly stole a white Samsung Galaxy J5 phone from Ms. M's jacket pocket. She then went to where her husband was waiting, preparing to get into the car to escape, but was caught red-handed by the police. Both suspects were taken to the police station for investigation.
At the police station, Pham Thi Lan and Nguyen Dinh Cuong honestly confessed to their crimes. According to the property valuation, the seized phone was worth 4 million VND.
According to the investigating agency, Lan had six previous convictions for theft and one prior offense, and was released from prison in September 2016; Cuong had five previous convictions for theft and was released from prison in January 2016.
The investigating authorities are currently expanding their investigation into the case.
