A couple in Thanh Xuan (Hanoi) poured Lao liquor into old Chivas bottles, then affixed labels to them before selling them on the market.

On October 14th, the Hanoi Police Investigation Agency completed its investigation and forwarded the case file to the People's Procuracy of the same level, requesting the prosecution of Tran Thi Thanh Hoa and her husband, Quach Ngan Giang (both 37 years old, residing in Thanh Xuan, Hanoi), for the crime of producing counterfeit goods.

According to the prosecution, in late 2014, Hoa was sentenced by the Hanoi People's Court to 19 months in prison for the crime of trading counterfeit goods. While awaiting the execution of her sentence, she and her husband counterfeited foreign liquor in their rented apartment in Thanh Xuan.

Police determined that Hoa bought old Chivas bottles, cleaned them, then filled them with Black liquor (from Laos) and affixed imported liquor labels.

When selling the liquor, the 37-year-old woman said she had relatives who were officials and regularly received imported liquor as gifts. Since she didn't use it all, Hoa wanted to sell the rest at a price lower than the market rate.

According to Hoa's confession, the cost to produce a bottle of counterfeit Chivas ranges from 100,000 to 120,000 VND.

Investigators revealed that this woman owned four stores selling counterfeit Chivas whiskey in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, and Ha Nam. By the time they were discovered, Hoa and her husband had sold nearly 100 bottles of fake foreign liquor.
