Boy fights hemolytic anemia for more than 12 years
(Baonghean.vn) - Luong Huu Quyet (born in 2000) is a Thai ethnic in Chau Hanh commune (Quy Chau). He was diagnosed with hemolytic anemia when he was 4 years old. While his mother was still in shock and pain, his father turned his back and left. The misfortune piled up on the shoulders of both mother and son because of his illness, he had to rely on the blood bank at the hospital for the rest of his life.
For more than 10 years now, from the Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital to the National Children's Hospital, the mother and son have had to go back and forth countless times to maintain Quyet's life. The hospital's treatment regimen is blood transfusion and iron removal, on average once a month, each time for at least a week and at most 10 days, the mother and son have to help each other to the hospital.

Because they have to go to the hospital regularly, the mother and daughter mainly eat instant noodles. Every day they only buy one 20,000 VND meal to eat together... |
Just entering kindergarten age, Luong Huu Quyet had to go to the hospital regularly for treatment, now he is a 12th grader but his condition has not improved but is at risk of getting worse. The burden of worries is heavier on his mother's shoulders. Quyet's spleen is larger than normal so the doctor ordered surgery, but after consulting the price of the surgery many times, both mother and son had to swallow their tears and pack up to go home.
Every time she took her child to the hospital, Quyet's mother had to save money on transportation to the hospital by taking her child nearly 200 km on an old motorbike. When her child was sick and tired, she had to go and rest, because the transportation for both mother and child cost more than 500,000 VND. When she went to the hospital, money was scarce, so Quyet's mother and child often had to eat instant noodles, each day buying and sharing a meal worth 20,000 VND.
Recalling the days of fighting illness with her son, Ms. Luong Thi Tam - Quyet's mother shared: Growing up, she met and fell in love with a man from Nghi Kieu (Nghi Loc), thinking that life would be happy and peaceful when her son was born. But when she discovered that her son had a serious illness, the heartless man left, leaving behind the pain of illness and the burden of life for her and her son.

Every time he is hospitalized, Quyet has to receive at least 3 bags of blood. |
The small house in Ta Lanh village, Chau Hanh commune, Quy Chau district now has only a mother and her child and a 90-year-old grandmother, sad and lonely because of the absence of the breadwinner. Quyet's mother is only over 40 years old but no longer dares to think about her own happiness, all day worrying about carrying goods on the street to save money to take her child to the hospital. The village also sympathizes with her and supports her so that she has time to take her child to school and a little more money to buy food for her child, but for the people in Chau Hanh mountainous commune, where over 60% of households are still poor, support is limited.
Despite his constant illness, Quyet was very studious. From primary to high school, he was a "special" student who was known and cared for by teachers and the school's Board of Directors. There were school years when he had to miss too much school to get medical treatment, but the school still created exceptional conditions for Quyet to go to class and make up for his illness. Thanks to his efforts, Quyet achieved excellent and advanced results in many school years. The bicycle for poor students overcoming difficulties of Chau Hanh Secondary School encouraged Quyet to make more efforts in his studies. Knowing his family's difficult circumstances, Quyet took advantage of the time when he was not sick to help his grandmother take care of pigs and chickens, and find food to save for when he and his mother went to the hospital.

Quyet's voice left an impression at the charity concert at Nghe An Oncology Hospital in March 2016. |
Quyet is also the school's "artist" because of his warm voice, especially songs about mothers. In early March, at a charity concert organized by Hoa Sen Security Group at Nghe An Oncology Hospital, Quyet's voice left an impression on the concert, many artists and patients cried. Mr. Tran Quang Trung - Director of Oncology Hospital promised to sponsor Quyet's spleen surgery.
Although the surgery has been funded, Quyet's health is not stable at the moment so it cannot be performed. At the Department of Hematology and Blood Diseases of the Provincial Hematology Center, Quyet still has to go from home to the hospital regularly and when he returns home, he asks his mother to take him to school to continue studying.
Previously, Quyet and her mother received a subsidy for single mothers raising disabled children, but it was cut off after only a few years. Currently, Ms. Luong Thi Tam has submitted a file to the commune and hopes that her superiors will approve the support for single mothers raising disabled children so that she can have more money to pay for her child's medical treatment.
Quyet's situation really needs the help and sharing of the community and philanthropists to help him overcome his illness.
