Heart shaped retractable pedestrian bridge

With the idea of ​​creating a highlight for urban tourism, a group of students from the University of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City designed a heart-shaped retractable pedestrian bridge model.

This is the topic that just won First Prize in the 8th Young Creative Ideas Contest in 2016, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, with the theme "Urban development and beautification".

Combining truss and cables, the heart-shaped bridge has a tower with three fixed branches that support the force. Above the tower is a room that hides the engine. When the engine rotates, the cables retract, pulling the truss system up vertically, the wheels roll on the main rail of the bridge, the truss system contracts to form a heart shape.

In normal condition, the bridge surface and walls are made of glass, giving pedestrians the feeling of walking in the air. The lighting system along the railings, cables, towers, and abutments makes the bridge sparkle at night.

Exhibited at the Creative Youth Festival, the heart-shaped bridge model attracted many visitors because of its aesthetic and unique architecture. The model is 1.2m high, 3.2m long, in which the main span to create the heart shape is 1.6m.

The two bridge piers are assumed to be located on Hoang Sa and Truong Sa routes, spanning the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal.
