During the APEC week, the Reception Club was also trusted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Reception Department to select 8 female students to present flowers, welcome and see off 4 heads of state to Hanoi, including prominent faces such as Pham Thu Tra - presenting flowers to President Xi Jinping on November 12; Pham Ngoc Ha My - presenting flowers to US President Donald Trump on November 11; Pham Thi Tu Anh - presenting flowers to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on November 8.
These girls are all carefully selected students, ensuring good criteria from appearance to walking style, behavior, and foreign language skills.

Nguyen Thi Linh, a third-year student of the Faculty of International Economics and the club's president, said that the Reception Club is a student club and is organized and run by students, with the aim of improving understanding of diplomatic reception in particular and promoting the student movement in general.
“Receiving the trust of the Diplomatic Academy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of other organizations, we were assigned to take charge of welcoming and guiding guests at events inside and outside the academy. This is also an opportunity for us students to exchange and learn in many fields as well as build social relationships.”
The female student born in 1997 said that in addition to the "unique" major event like APEC, the club members have also participated in many other events such as: welcoming the Greek Foreign Minister, welcoming the New Zealand Ambassador, the Canadian Foreign Minister, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Vice President of Bulgaria, presenting flowers to the Lao Prime Minister and his wife, welcoming heads of state during APEC week, welcoming Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping at the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam-China Friendship Palace...

To gain this trust, the club's board of directors regularly organizes "training" sessions on how to walk, behave, shake hands, dress, etc. The instructors are seniors working in the diplomatic sector, teachers in the training and development department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Our club has up to 150 active members, including departments such as the executive board, events department, communications, human resources... The press often mentions some of us selected to welcome heads of state, but in reality there are many of us working quietly behind the scenes,” Linh shared.
