Phong Chau pontoon bridge is back in operation
On July 7, Brigade 249 - Engineer Corps re-operated Phong Chau pontoon bridge to serve people crossing the river. The bridge's operating time is from 6:00 to 21:00 on July 7; from July 8, it will operate from 5:00 to 21:00 every day.
Colonel Nguyen Dang Chien - Head of Propaganda Department, Engineering Corps said that to ensure service to people and vehicles when traveling through Phong Chau bridge area (Phu Tho), the unit has regularly measured water level and flow velocity.
On the night of July 6, after carefully assessing the safety level, Brigade 249 stayed up all night to re-install Phong Chau pontoon bridge to serve the people after 5 days of interruption due to rising floodwaters.
The bridge's operating hours are from 6am to 9pm on July 7. From July 8, it will operate from 5am to 9pm every day. After 9pm, the unit will cut the bridge to handle garbage and preserve the bridge segments, ensuring technical safety and prolonging the life of the pontoon bridge.
Phong Chau Bridge (the old bridge that collapsed) is a vital bridge of Phu Tho province, so every day a large number of people and vehicles pass through here. The bridge collapsed due to the impact of storm No. 3 in September 2024. After that, the Government directed relevant units to quickly come up with a plan to build a new bridge, and at the same time develop a plan to ensure people's travel.
After nearly 10 months, Brigade 249 has worked day and night, regardless of sun or rain, to operate the pontoon bridge and military ferry (empty ferry) to ensure the best service to the people under the conditions allowed.
