A short while later, Duc heard his nephew talking, thinking he was insulting him. When he didn't get a response, he grabbed a machete and went upstairs, slashing his sleeping nephew multiple times in the face, stomach, and arms.
After being slashed, Kh. woke up, screamed, and lunged to embrace Đức. Then, the victim ran away and collapsed at the bottom of the stairs.

The results showed that before, during, and after committing the crime, and at the time of the evaluation, Duc suffered from mental and behavioral disorders due to alcohol use, limiting his cognitive abilities and ability to control his behavior.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. The victim requested the court to consider mitigating circumstances for the defendant.
After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced Ha Van Duc to 8 years in prison for murder.
