This cropping season, Tuong Duong district planted rice on over 650 hectares. The district directed that only 1-2 rice varieties with similar growth periods be planted in the same field, and that planting must follow a schedule to effectively meet the requirements for care and pest and disease management.

This year's crop season in Tuong Duong mainly features purebred and glutinous rice varieties: NA2, LH13, and is experimenting with BT09, as well as hybrid rice varieties: B-TE1, Thai Xuyen 111... The communes with the largest rice cultivation areas include Nga My, Xieng My, Tam Thai, Tam Dinh...

To proactively secure irrigation water, the district directed communes to mobilize forces to repair field and plot embankments, dredge canals to ensure smooth water flow, and use water economically; over 30 water wheels were repaired, and over 40 small reservoirs and ponds were built and repaired to serve irrigation purposes.

Due to water scarcity, approximately over 20 hectares will have to be converted to other crops. Currently, the entire district has sown and planted over 100 hectares, and it is estimated that Tuong Duong will complete the sowing and planting of the 2016 crop by August 10th.
