In less than two hours, the post had more than 5,000 likes and hundreds of comments and shares. Most of the comments came from Thai fans, in English.
"Congratulations to Cerezo Osaka for adding an unprofessional player," commented Bunyarit Intachup. "Hope he doesn't give you a headache." Fan Anucha Noncharee wrote: "The best goalkeeper in the universe." Khun Nattaphol was more polite, commenting: "From Thailand, good luck. Don't come back here again." Aphiwat Maungrit wrote: "An unprofessional goalkeeper, skipped training and ran away from the club. He did everything to get to Cerezo Osaka."
Cerezo Osaka was promoted to J-League 1 in the 2017 season, and has since recruited two Thai players: striker Tawan Khotrsupho and midfielder Chaowat Veerachat. Both have not played for Cerezo's first team, but have had to play in the U23 team. Thai fans also criticized Cerezo under the J-League post. Ceegame_11 wrote: "Welcome to J-League 2, Cerezo Osaka". Siwachat Saibua commented: "I thought a club like Cerezo Osaka would be better, why would they go after players like that. This team has no sportsmanship, and there are many away teams to cheer for."
There was also a comment from a Thai fan who really congratulated Van Lam, from fan MrBee Dek Say Play. And Tony Sawangvitt commented: "Good luck to Van Lam. Hope he learns as much as possible at Cerezo Osaka, before returning to help Kiatisuk at HAGL".
Cerezo Osaka announced the recruitment of Van Lam on the morning of January 30, as a free agent, after being granted an international transfer license by FIFA (International Transfer License). Van Lam needs to go to Japan for quarantine, then undergo a medical examination before signing the contract. Meanwhile, his former club Muangthong United is still suing Van Lam for breaking the contract in violation of regulations.
After sending two goalkeepers out on loan, Cerezo Osaka has three goalkeepers left: Kim Jin-hyeon, Van Lam and Shu Mogi. Of these, Kim has been the official goalkeeper for nearly 10 years, while Shu is only 22 years old and has not played in the J-League.
