"Father and Son" competes at film festival comparable to Cannes and Venice

"Father and Son" by Luong Dinh Dung attended the 21st Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, taking place in the capital city of Tallinn, Estonia.

The film "Father and Son" has just officially won the "Best Feature Film" award at the 17th Asia-Pacific Latin American Film Festival held in Washington DC.

At the 6th American Independent Film Festival held in New York, the film "Father and Son" continued to win the "Best Director" and "Best Cinematography" awards and had a screening to the audience at the Film Festival on June 18.

Coming up in Toronto, Canada on July 3, the film "Father and Son" will also officially have its opening screening of the 13th Reel Heart International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada. At the 13th Reel Heart Film Festival, the film "Father and Son" was nominated for important categories such as: "Outstanding Cinematography", "Outstanding Foreign Film", "Outstanding Actor", "Outstanding Sound".

Another good news is that "Father and Son" by director Luong Dinh Dung has been selected for the official competition round at the 21st Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. This is one of the largest film festivals with the most diverse film genres in the Nordic region, which welcomes more than 1,000 international filmmakers each year, and screens about 250 films, more than 300 short films and animations, with the participation of 80,000 people each year.

Director Luong Dinh Dung said he was busy with a new project, but accepted the invitation from the Organizing Committee to attend the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Luong Dinh Dung revealed that "Cha cong con" will continue to attend many film events, whether big or small, but for me it is an opportunity to promote Vietnamese films to international friends.

Currently, the director born in 1973 is urgently preparing to start filming his second film project called Sleeping City. The film is expected to last 92 minutes and is based on the novel of the same name he wrote in 2008.

"I am very happy and sober to write a story where the characters are not sober. I named the film when I started to come up with the idea, because it fits the content of the story. This is a completely different story from "Father and Son", which can be described as a 180-degree turn, the most thorny story in the books I have written. It is carefully prepared and will be strictly executed" - Luong Dinh Dung shared about Sleepy City.

"Sleeping City" tells the story of a 25-year-old main character who lives in a nearly abandoned alley, butchering chickens for hire every day, until one day three unidentified men appear and hide in a collapsed house in the alley, along with an abandoned girl. Everything unusual happens, it begins to appear beyond the control of the characters and the author himself...

Director Luong Dinh Dung said he still pursues his own way of storytelling. In the film "Sleeping City", the character's developments change without any rules. The main goal of "Sleeping City" is to conquer the most demanding judges. Therefore, it requires and also allows him unlimited creativity in storytelling and staging. "Father and Son" has satisfied me in every aspect, it is like a big debt that I have paid, so Sleeping City will be able to fly freely. You imagine the feeling when watching the film "Sleeping City" like a calm lake in the dark night, the only difference is that you are forced to dive into a bottomless lake." - Luong Dinh Dung likened.

Just like his debut film, Luong Dinh Dung does not favor famous faces familiar to the audience. He aims for new faces, who are truly the incarnations of the characters.
