Father loses his life trying to stop a gang from beating his son.
Simply for trying to stop his son from being chased and attacked by a gang of thugs, Mr. Em was strangled to death.
On June 21st, the An Giang Provincial Police Investigation Agency announced that they had issued a decision to temporarily detain Le Kha (born in 1999) and Nguyen Van Hiep (born in 1990) - both residing in Vinh Tuong 2 hamlet, Chau Phong commune, Tan Chau town, An Giang province - for the crime of murder. The victim was Mr. Nguyen Hung Em (born in 1977, also residing in Chau Phong commune).

According to initial investigations, on the evening of June 17th, Hiep and Kha, along with four friends, went drinking at a restaurant in Vinh Tuong 2 hamlet, Chau Phong commune. At around 8:30 PM that same day, the group asked for the bill.
While the group was paying the bill, Nguyen Van Khang (born in 1996, son of Mr. Em), his wife Tran Thi Tu Nuong (born in 1992), and three of Khang's friends entered the restaurant and ordered drinks. The owner said they were out of drinks and were about to close, so Khang's group decided to leave. One person in Hiep and Kha's group offered Khang a beer, but he declined. At this point, Khang glanced at Kha, but Kha interpreted it as a "dirty look." Seeing this, Khang's group left first.
Immediately afterwards, Hiep and Kha got on a motorbike and chased after Khang, using helmets to hit him, but others intervened. Ms. Nuong ran home, about 50 meters away, to inform her parents-in-law to come and stop the fight. When they arrived, Mr. Em was hit on the head with a stick by Kha. With the help of people nearby, Mr. Em returned home.
Hiep tried to drive Kha home, but Kha refused, insisting they go back and continue chasing and beating Mr. Em. Catching up with Mr. Em, Kha jumped off and strangled him, while Hiep punched him. By the time others intervened, Mr. Em had lost consciousness. The victim was taken to the hospital but died before arriving.
After learning of Mr. Em's death, Hiep and Kha went to the police station to surrender. The autopsy results showed that Mr. Em died from mechanical asphyxiation due to strangulation.
