Arsenal's player ratings against Sporting Lisbon: David Raya and Kai Havertz shine.
A stellar performance from goalkeeper David Raya and a late goal from Kai Havertz helped Arsenal secure a dramatic victory against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Arsenal experienced a nail-biting night in the Champions League, overcoming Sporting Lisbon thanks to moments of brilliance from their substitutes. In a match where Mikel Arteta's system was sometimes disjointed, the individual brilliance of players at both ends of the pitch proved key in determining the outcome.
The solidity of the defense
Arsenal's biggest strength in this match was their defense, where David Raya continued to assert his unassailable position in goal. As early as the 5th minute, the Spanish goalkeeper made a spectacular save after a shot from Maximiliano Araujo, establishing a proactive stance for the entire team.

Alongside Raya, Ben White also had a disciplined and highly effective performance, arguably the best among the back four. Despite facing skepticism about his form, the defender ensured absolute security on the right flank.

The central defensive pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes continued to maintain their chemistry, effectively neutralizing the home team's attacks. Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori, despite a busy night dealing with the speed of Sporting's wingers, still performed his task of keeping up well.

Midfield and the low notes from the captain
Declan Rice remains a tireless defensive midfielder, helping Arsenal recover possession and prevent counter-attacks. However, his partner, Martin Zubimendi, despite integrating well, has been unlucky with goals, as VAR disallowed a delicate finish due to a teammate being offside.

Notably, captain Martin Odegaard had a below-expected performance. His usual game-changing passes were absent, partly due to a minor injury sustained in the second half which significantly reduced his impact on the team's overall play.

The attacking effort and the difference made by the substitutes.
Without Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke tried his best on the right flank, but the final result remained questionable. On the opposite side, Leandro Trossard also found himself in a similar situation, being neutralized by Sporting Lisbon's deep defensive system.

The turning point truly came when Kai Havertz was brought on in the 75th minute. His intelligent movement and cool finish in injury time secured a valuable three points for the London team. Once again, the German striker proved his knack for scoring in crucial Champions League matches.
