On January 23, the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labor signed a decision to terminate the employment contract of the driver of the government-owned vehicle who slapped a riot police officer on Chuong Duong Bridge.

According to the latest information from the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, authorized by the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Chief Inspector Nguyen Tien Tung has just signed Decision No. 02, terminating the labor contract with Mr. Nguyen Duy Thanh - the driver of the Ministry's blue-plated car who disobeyed traffic control police orders and slapped a riot police officer - an incident that occurred on the evening of January 18th at the foot of Chuong Duong Bridge.

This is a very decisive move by the Ministry against the driver who caused the public uproar over the past few days.

The vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Labor Inspectorate is at the scene of the traffic violation.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Inspector of the Ministry, Nguyen Tien Tung, said: “Driver Nguyen Duy Thanh has been prosecuted by the police, so the police will handle the subsequent proceedings. After that, the Ministry will continue to handle the matter according to regulations.”

Chief Inspector Nguyen Tien Tung also provided the following information: "In his report submitted to the Ministry's Inspectorate, driver Nguyen Duy Thanh stated that at approximately 7 PM on January 18th, while driving across Chuong Duong Bridge, he signaled to turn right because he wanted to make a turn."

However, the riot police did not allow the driver to turn right, instead instructing other vehicles to go straight due to traffic congestion. Still wanting to turn right, driver Thanh tried to inch his car forward and steer to the right. However, while he was inching forward, a riot police officer tapped the hood of his car with a baton.

At that moment, driver Nguyen Duy Thanh, who was still sitting in the car, rolled down the window and reached out to slap the riot police officer. Immediately afterward, driver Thanh got out of the car and apologized to the police, but to no avail.

"That's what I know from driver Thanh's report. I think this is also a work-related accident. For many years working at the Ministry, driver Duy Thanh has been a very gentle person, never getting into fights or raising his voice with anyone. Almost everyone at the Ministry who knows about this feels sorry for him, and I personally feel sorry for him too. But even though we feel sorry for him, we shouldn't and can't cover up this. We are determined to handle this strictly to set an example for other cases," Chief Inspector Nguyen Tien Tung affirmed.

"Some newspapers and public opinion have reported that I was also in that car, but this information is completely false. If I had been in that car, the driver would never have acted so impulsively," the Chief Inspector added.

Earlier, on the evening of January 18th, at the foot of Chuong Duong Bridge (Hanoi), traffic police were on duty directing traffic, and riot police were deployed to guide vehicles straight ahead to avoid congestion.

However, at this time, while driving across the Chuong Duong bridge, the driver of the blue-plated car belonging to the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs disregarded the order and behaved rudely towards the police officers on duty.

The task force immediately took decisive action, bringing the person and the vehicle to the Bo De Ward Police Station to draw up a report, hand over the case, and then inform the Long Bien District Police to investigate and handle the matter.

At the police station, driver Thanh confessed that he had not used any stimulants or alcohol when the incident occurred. He admitted that his act of slapping the riot police officer was due to anger.

Immediately after the incident occurred, Minister of Labor Dao Ngoc Dung directed that it be dealt with decisively and strictly, without any cover-up.

On January 20th, the Long Bien District Police in Hanoi issued a decision to initiate criminal proceedings and indict Nguyen Duy Thanh (born in 1975, from Phu Tho province) for the offense of resisting public officials (according to Article 257 of the Penal Code).
