Portrait of the man who used a "bomb" to rob a bank of 1.1 billion VND

On January 29, the Criminal Police Department, Bac Giang Provincial Police announced that it had issued a decision to temporarily detain Nguyen Duc Minh (35 years old), residing in Yen Dung district, Bac Giang, for the act of "Robbery".

Previously, at around 3:15 p.m. on January 26, the Criminal Police Department received a report from the 113 Police Force of Bac Giang Provincial Police about a "Robbery" case with particularly serious consequences at the Dinh Ke Agribank Transaction Office, Bac Giang II Branch, No. 1122, Le Loi Street, Dinh Ke Ward, Bac Giang City.

Upon receiving the report, the Criminal Police Department of Bac Giang Provincial Police coordinated with Bac Giang City Police and the Criminal Techniques Department to conduct a crime scene investigation and organize verification investigation.

Through the investigation of the scene, the police determined that the perpetrator was a male, traveling alone. Extracting the camera, the subject was wearing a mask, gloves, a baseball cap, and carrying a backpack.

Once inside, the subject took out a piece of paper from his backpack that said, “I have a bomb and a gun in my pocket, put money in it if you don’t want to die,” and then gave it to Ms. Pham Thi Mai, the cashier; at the same time, he took out a box-shaped package (bomb) and placed it on the desk where Ms. Mai was sitting, and showed a gun, demanding that the bank employee take 1.1 billion VND from the safe and put it in his backpack. Then, the subject took the backpack of money and went out, got on a motorbike and escaped.

Based on the investigation documents, determining that this is a particularly serious and complicated case, the perpetrator is unknown, the perpetrator is very aggressive, it is necessary to apply synchronous measures to organize the investigation to quickly clarify the perpetrator, the Investigation Police Agency of Bac Giang Provincial Police issued a Decision to prosecute the criminal case, establish a special project to quickly fight and clarify the subject.

Using professional measures, the police searched for the person who made the fake mine, Nguyen Duc Minh, but when a working group arrived at his residence, his family had moved elsewhere.

According to sources, Minh and his wife had separated, his wife and children had returned to his mother's house in Phi Mo commune, Lang Giang district (Bac Giang) to live, and no one knew where he had gone. From the information reported by the detectives, the Criminal Police Department found Minh in Bac Ninh province. Immediately after that, on January 27, another working group was sent to Bac Ninh to summon the subject to the police headquarters for clarification.

Here, Minh was quite calm, he gave many convoluted reasons to deny the crime. However, faced with sufficient evidence provided by the police, it was not until the evening of January 28 that he confessed to the robbery.

According to Minh, due to debt, 10 days before committing the crime, he bought a fake plastic gun and other items to rob the bank. After that, Minh was often present outside the bank to follow the rules of operation, choosing days with few customers to break in. After committing the crime, he threw the fake gun into a pond in village 3, Tan Thinh commune (Lang Giang).

Based on Minh's testimony, the Investigation Police Agency searched and seized 28 stacks of 200,000 VND bills hidden by the suspect in the backyard of his mother-in-law's house in Phi Mo commune (Lang Giang); searched Minh's car and seized 16 stacks of 200,000 VND bills and 2 stacks of 100,000 VND bills.

In addition, the police also seized a fake gun. The Criminal Police Department is currently continuing to investigate and clarify some related details.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province has awarded 4 units, namely the Criminal Police Department, Criminal Techniques Department, Professional Techniques Department and Bac Giang City Police Department, a total of 60 million VND.

On the afternoon of January 29, Bac Giang Provincial Police held a press conference to inform about the robbery and awarded the Chairman of Bac Giang Provincial People's Committee to outstanding units.

With this achievement, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province awarded 4 units, namely the Criminal Police Department, Criminal Techniques Department, Professional Techniques Department and Bac Giang City Police Department, with a total amount of 60 million VND. On this occasion, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam also awarded the project team 50 million VND, and the People's Committee of Bac Giang City awarded 30 million VND.
