(Baonghean.vn) – At only 27 years old, Nguyen Duc Loc, a youth union official in Nghi Loc district, has already donated blood 9 times in 8 years to save lives.

At the age of four, Vo Cong Duc, from Mau 1 hamlet, Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan district, had to endure months of treatment for thalassemia at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. During the intensive treatment phase, Duc needed a large amount of blood donated directly.

Upon learning of Duc's dire situation, Nguyen Duc Loc, who has blood type O (the universal blood type), volunteered to donate blood to save Duc. Three weeks after that donation, Duc needed blood again, and Loc was willing to donate once more, but regulations prevented him from donating blood in such a short period.

At that time, he persuaded two people with the same blood type to donate blood to Duc. After receiving blood multiple times, Duc passed the critical period.

Mr. Loc shared: "Donating blood to save lives is a noble act that reflects the tradition of mutual support and compassion of the Vietnamese people. When receiving a blood transfusion, patients not only receive the necessary amount of blood to recover quickly or to live, but also receive the love and compassion of their fellow human beings."

Not only Duc, but many other patients have also received emergency blood donations from Nguyen Duc Loc when needed. In addition, as an official of the Nghi Loc District Youth Union, he frequently interacts with young union members, so whenever he participates in activities, Loc always tries to find time to promote and encourage young union members in the district to participate in humanitarian blood donation.

Thanks to this, over the past five years, more than 4,000 young people in the district have participated in blood donation. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, a member of the Youth Union branch of the People's Bloc in Nghi Loc district, shared: "I myself was once encouraged by Loc to donate blood to save lives. From then on, I also realized that this is a responsibility to share with the community and society."

To date, Loc has donated blood nine times, including five times for emergency situations and four times through blood donation programs organized by the Nghe An Provincial Blood Transfusion Center. Many lives have been saved from difficult circumstances and illnesses thanks to the blood donated by this compassionate young man.

What's even more admirable about Loc is that he never accepts any tips, instead giving them back to the patients' families. "Although it's not much, it can help the patients' families cover some of the costs. Because most families are already struggling financially once their children are admitted to the hospital," Loc explained.

In his daily life and work, Nguyen Duc Loc is also a core youth union and association official in youth union movements in Nghi Loc district. Loc himself has organized many charitable programs in disadvantaged areas, participated in "Supporting Students During Exams," and many other practical activities.

For these contributions, Loc has received five commendations from the Central Youth Union, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union for his various achievements in youth union work and youth movements.
