Nghe An boy with talent for carving portraits on hair
(Baonghean.vn) - Drawing a portrait is difficult, but carving a portrait on hair is even more difficult. However, that is the job that a young man from "Nhut land" - Thanh Chuong (Nghe An) who works as a barber in Hanoi can do skillfully.
Hair portrait engraving has been around for a long time in foreign countries, but in Vietnam it is still very new and few people can do it. This job requires the worker to have skills and talent, especially the ability to draw portraits and the ability to express images on hair through tools such as knives, scissors, clippers, etc.
Recently, on social networks, many images of a young man from Thanh Chuong who skillfully carves portraits on his hair have been circulating, attracting the attention of many people. That is Tran Dinh Nham (25 years old), from Thanh Ha commune, Thanh Chuong district, who is working as a barber in Hanoi.

Since childhood, Nham loved cutting hair for villagers. When he grew up, while studying at the Mechanical College and during his years working in Taiwan, he also often cut hair and created fashionable hairstyles for his brothers and friends.
When watching on social networks, seeing professional hairdressers carve portraits on hair, Nham confidently said "I can do it too" and tried to do it. The initial images were simple and crude but received a lot of encouragement from friends. However, at that time, Nham did not think that he would become a hairdresser.
After returning home (in 2017), Nham decided to quit his mechanical career and go to Hanoi to pursue a career in hairdressing. He fell in love with the art of portraiture on hair right from the beginning of his career.

After a period of studying and practicing successfully, Nham passionately embarked on this job. Although he had not been in the profession for long, with his innate talent and eagerness to explore and learn, Nham soon had excellent portrait works that were loved by many people.
Recently, Nham has been known by young people as one of the two "golden scissors" from Nghe An in the field of hair portrait carving in the capital.

According to Nham, to depict a portrait on hair, the artist must think and worry a lot, from the moment of choosing the image, not just any image can do it, must choose a suitable image, then carefully research how to express it, and then start working.
When carving, one must also concentrate to highlight the character's spirit. It takes only about an hour to carve a portrait, but before that, one must do a lot of research. "Drawing on paper, if it's wrong, you can fix or replace it, but carving a portrait on hair, if you make a mistake, you have to discard the whole work. This job requires meticulous observation and carefulness" - Nham said.

In addition to expressing diverse and sharp portraits, Nham also vividly depicts images of birds, flowers, and landscapes in his hair.
When asked about his future plans, Nham said he would stick with this job for a long time. “I am trying to find new things, practice and improve my skills, so that each work I create is a manifestation of my passion and enthusiasm. I also cherish some ideas to develop more portrait hair carving and hope to return to my hometown to open a shop and spread this art…” – Nham shared.
