Explaining the seemingly humorous name, Mr. Chuong said: "In April 2015, a friend brought a pair of magpies from Hue and gave me one, which is the precious bird I have now. Initially, when I first started raising it, it didn't show any special characteristics, and I was a little disappointed, thinking to myself: 'It's doomed, I'll just name it 'Dead!' Unexpectedly, after only about 5 months, through careful nurturing and training, the magpie continuously won many awards at dozens of competitions inside and outside the province. At the same time, the bird's features and appearance gradually developed."

According to connoisseurs, Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong's bulbul has a thick crest, a long tail, a broad chest, thin feathers, and a fierce appearance. These are the characteristics of a valuable bird with a long and strong fighting spirit.

Most recently, someone offered 145 million VND to buy the bird named "Dead," but Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong still shook his head and refused. In addition, Mr. Chuong currently owns many other valuable birds such as the bulbul named "Ma Dao" and "That Lac," which are valued at around 10-15 million VND each.

If we consider only the white-eye bird, the yellow-eye bird owned by Mr. Ho Trong Lam (Vinh Tan ward, Vinh City) is currently valued at 120 million VND, considered one of the most prized birds in Nghe An's bird-keeping community.

The yellow warbler is a genetically mutated bird with yellow feathers, pink legs, and a pink beak. Mr. Lam was fortunate enough to buy it from a local resident in Cua Hoi three years ago. He says he has been passionate about keeping warblers for over a decade. Besides his work, his only hobby is caring for his collection of about 15 pet birds, each of which is highly valuable. “I never dare go anywhere for more than two days, because if I'm gone for too long, the birds will miss me, and I'll miss them, and no one else can take care of them for me,” Mr. Lam shared.

While an outsider might see a flock of chirping birds as all alike, experienced bird enthusiasts have a very specific and discerning eye for evaluating rare and valuable birds. According to them, a good bird should have a physique that is either long or short. The long features include a long neck, long body, long legs, long beak, and long tail; the short features are the opposite of these criteria.

On the other hand, in terms of plumage, the thin-feathered bulbul is the most favored because of its enduring fighting and competitive spirit. Bulbuls with thin beaks and lower jaws larger than the upper jaw tend to sing more frequently.

Bird crests are also divided into many types: Lion crests are found in birds with a fierce appearance; Nail crests are usually associated with energetic and playful birds; Short crests are a type of thick and short crest, and birds with this type of crest are often known for their endurance and strength in fights. The rarest, most unique, and most sought-after type is the rhinoceros lion crest.

Regarding bird throats: Cow throats are the most preferred because they are very visually appealing; frog throats belong to rare bird species, whose throats flare out like a cobra when they sing.

The appearance of a bird's eyes is also a criterion often paid attention to by bird enthusiasts. A good bird's eyes should be shaped like lemon seeds, bulging, and the bird should be very alert during competitions.
