According to RIA Novosti on August 10, The New York Times, citing sources, reported that Europe and Ukraine are requesting security guarantees from the United States as part of a future agreement on resolving the conflict.

"Europeans, as usual, supported Ukraine's positions, while emphasizing that any agreement must come with security guarantees, including from the United States," the New York Times reported.

In addition, European allies are asking Washington to give Ukraine a chance to join NATO, even if "it is no longer appropriate now."

All these issues were discussed at the August 9 meeting between British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and representatives from Kyiv and Brussels. US Vice President JD Vance was also present.

"President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 6, appears to have raised that issue," the publication stated.

According to the Axios news portal, at the same meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, Ukrainian and European representatives called the first step towards a solution an immediate ceasefire. At the same time, in Kyiv's opinion, territorial concessions should not be made in exchange for a ceasefire agreement.

Earlier, both the White House and the Kremlin announced that President Donald Trump and his counterpart Vladimir Putin would meet in Alaska on August 15th. The two leaders will focus on discussing options for achieving a lasting peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis.

Following the announcement of the upcoming Russia-US summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he would not cede territory.
