Mao Zedong's grandson not invited to party congress
Mao Xinyu, grandson of late Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong, was not invited to attend the Communist Party of China congress in October.

Major General Mao Xinyu is one of five senior military officials who were not invited to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held on October 18, SCMP reported today. These five people all come from or have family ties to former Chinese national leaders or generals.
Mao Xinyu is the grandson of the late Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong. He was promoted to Major General in 2010.
The remaining four military officials not invited were General Liu Yuan, son of the late President Liu Shaoqi, Admiral Liu Xiaojiang, son-in-law of the late General Secretary Hu Yaobang, General Zhang Haiyang, son of the late Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) Zhang Zhen, and General Liu Yazhou, son-in-law of former President Li Xiannian.
This congress of the Communist Party of China is attended by 2,300 delegates from all fields. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has 300 delegates attending, the list of delegates was announced on September 6.
The Chinese Communist Party Congress is an event held every five years. The congress is considered the basis for determining the next generation of Chinese leaders. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to continue to be elected as General Secretary for the 2017-2022 term.
The congress will also elect seven members of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China. The members all hold important positions and have supreme power in China's leadership apparatus. Currently, only President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang are eligible to serve in the next term, the remaining five will retire due to age and term limits./.
