Previously, on June 19th, the Buon Ma Thuot City Police dismantled the largest illegal lottery gambling ring ever uncovered in the Central Highlands, with transactions exceeding 500 billion VND. During the investigation, police arrested and questioned over 20 people involved in the ring, including Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh.
On August 6th, the investigating agency summoned Oanh to clarify her involvement in gambling. During questioning, Oanh admitted that, fearing arrest by the police, she had contacted Nguyen Vy Hoang Thao to ask for help in "fixing the case" to avoid legal trouble.
Despite not knowing anyone capable of "bribing" officials, Thảo still agreed to Oanh's request and quoted a price of 400 million VND. After receiving the money, Thảo kept 70 million VND and gave the rest to Tân to find someone to help Oanh. Tân received 330 million VND from Thảo and then transferred 280 million VND to Hiền and Mai to find helpers. However, this group later divided the money among themselves and spent it, failing to fulfill their commitment.
