At around 8 PM on December 31st, residents living on Pham Hung Street noticed thick smoke and flames accompanied by explosions at a convenience store located at C14/21 (Binh Hung Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) and raised the alarm.
The grocery store owner and local residents tried to put out the fire but failed. The flames spread rapidly to three neighboring kiosks: a pharmacy, a car repair shop, and a sugarcane stall.
"I had just finished eating when I heard shouts of 'fire' along with loud explosions. My husband and I quickly shouted for help and asked passersby to move our six motorbikes to safety before the fire reached them," a witness said.
Upon receiving the report, the Binh Chanh district fire department dispatched numerous fire trucks and dozens of firefighters to the scene to control the blaze.
According to residents, the four kiosks shared the same building and were divided into four separate units for trading and renting. The fire resulted in two people being burned and many items being destroyed.
