Many local teacher training colleges have entrance requirements of 9-10 points, meaning an average of just over three points per subject.
While the average scores on the national high school graduation exam this year have increased, leading to higher admission scores for many training programs, a number of teacher training colleges have seen their admission scores drop compared to last year. Many schools are even admitting students with scores as low as 3 points per subject.

The admission score for Lao Cai Teacher Training College is 9.5, lower than the scores of the previous two years, which ranged from 11.25 to 12.1 points.

Teacher training colleges have long maintained a high standard in their training and student management. Academic pressure is real. If students lack the resilience, they are easily susceptible to problems that hinder their ability to acquire knowledge, manage their study time, and participate in the educational activities of the school and faculty.
According to regulations, teachers who have graduated from teacher training colleges are allowed to teach from preschool to lower secondary school.
In the 2017 admissions season, except for the two major universities, Hanoi Pedagogical University and Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical University, which had high cutoff scores, most local schools set their admission scores for pedagogical majors at or slightly above the Ministry of Education's minimum threshold of 15.5. Hong Duc University (public, Thanh Hoa province) has 10 out of 10 teacher training programs with a cutoff score of 15.5 based on the national high school graduation exam results. Hung Vuong University (public, Phu Tho province) has 8 out of 10 teacher training programs with a cutoff score of 15.5. Regional universities with a strong reputation, such as Vinh University (Nghe An province), have a cutoff score of only 15.5 for the Natural Sciences Education group (Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry) and the Social Sciences Education group (Literature, History, Geography, Politics, Primary Education, National Defense and Security), except for Primary Education. Hue University of Education has 10 out of 15 majors with a cutoff score equal to the converted minimum score. Thai Nguyen University of Education has 6 out of 14 majors with a cutoff score of 15.5. |
