(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City (Nghe An province) has issued regulations on using a portion of sidewalks for parking bicycles and motorbikes (for sidewalks that meet the requirements) and also stipulates the installation of canopies on sidewalks.

Specifically, existing and newly constructed canopies and awnings on sidewalks are permitted to exist and be installed only if they meet the following criteria:

- The height from the sidewalk level is between 3.5 and 4 meters (measured from the red boundary line).

- Maximum overhang onto the sidewalk is 2 meters (measured from the red boundary line);

- The structure of the canopy or porch roof must be made of corrugated iron or nylon fabric (for movable canopies or porch roofs), and must not be torn or dilapidated.

- The area above the canopy or sidewalk roof must not be used for any other purpose (such as balconies, terraces, or areas for displaying potted plants, etc.).

In addition, the city also regulates the areas of sidewalks permitted for parking two-wheeled vehicles. Specifically, it prohibits marking designated parking areas for motorbikes and bicycles on main streets (Truong Thi, Lenin, Le Mao, etc.) and streets with sidewalks less than 3 meters wide.

On streets with many service and commercial activities, painted lines delineate the boundaries between the sidewalk area for pedestrians and the sidewalk area for parking bicycles and motorbikes. Specifically:

- For streets with sidewalks wider than 6 meters: Mark a 3-meter-wide area for motorbike and bicycle parking towards the residential buildings, with the remaining area reserved for pedestrians.

- For streets with sidewalks ranging from 4 to 6 meters wide: Mark a 2-meter-wide area for motorbike and bicycle parking towards the residential buildings, with the remaining area reserved for pedestrians;

- For streets with sidewalks 3 to 4 meters wide: Mark out areas for motorbike and bicycle parking 1-2 meters wide towards residential buildings, and a 2-meter wide area for pedestrians.

The city assigned Vinh Urban Infrastructure Management and Development Joint Stock Company to complete the painting of the sidewalk markings, and the People's Committees of the wards and communes informed the households on both sides of the streets that they are only allowed to use the marked sidewalk area for parking two-wheeled vehicles and not for any other purpose.
