Only current Russian air defense systems are capable of destroying hypersonic missiles, Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said in an interview with Sputnik ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"Combat aircraft – planes and helicopters – is an area where we currently hold a competitive advantage over our rivals, both in terms of quality and quantity. As with most defense industry product lines in general, the mere fact that only our systems can now successfully counter our own unique hypersonic weapons is sufficient proof of this assertion," the Deputy Prime Minister remarked.
Russia has created several advanced air defense systems with capabilities superior to their foreign counterparts. Examples include the S-400 and S-500 long-range air defense/missile defense systems, the S-350 Vityaz system, and the Buk-M3, Tor-M2, and Pantsir-S complexes.
The Russian Federation is currently the only country in the world equipped with hypersonic missiles, such as the Kinzhal air-launched missile and the Zircon ship-launched missile. The Kinzhal hypersonic missile has been used repeatedly in special military operations to neutralize Ukrainian military facilities, including the destruction of a US Patriot air defense system in Kyiv.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held from June 14-17.
