Out-of-warranty repair costs for new iPhones can reach up to $799.
Apple's recently announced out-of-warranty repair costs for the new iPhone models have drawn much attention, with the highest repair fee reaching $799.
What is out-of-warranty repair?
In Apple's service system, out-of-warranty repairs refer to situations where a device malfunctions not caused by a manufacturing defect. In other words, if the problem is not covered under Apple's "Limited Warranty" policy, the user will have to pay for the repair or replacement.
According to regulations, Apple only provides warranty coverage for iPhones and genuine accessories included in the product box for manufacturing defects within one year of purchase. These defects typically include hardware malfunctions or faulty components resulting from the manufacturing process, and do not cover damage caused by misuse.

This means that if your iPhone is dropped, damaged by impact, gets wet beyond its standard water resistance range, or suffers any other external damage, Apple will not repair it for free.
Instead, users have to pay a certain fee, depending on the type of damage and the components that need replacing. In some serious cases, when the device is not eligible for repair, Apple may require payment for the full replacement cost. This is why understanding the warranty coverage and out-of-warranty costs is so important for iPhone users.
Service fees range from $99 to $799.
Following the recent iPhone launch event, Apple quickly updated its "Repair and Service" tool on its official website, adding out-of-warranty charges for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air series. These charges apply when the device experiences issues outside the limited warranty coverage, such as cracked screens, damaged glass, worn-out batteries, or other serious malfunctions.
According to the new price list, the cost of replacing the front screen for the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro is $329, while the Pro Max version costs more at $379. If the rear glass is damaged, the fee remains uniform at $159 for all models. If both the screen and the rear glass are damaged, users will have to pay between $419 and $469, depending on the model.
For batteries, replacement costs range from $99 for the iPhone 17 to $119 for higher-end models. The rear camera module, however, shows a significant difference in price, with the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air costing $169, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max cost up to $249.
In the event of other serious malfunctions not listed above, users may have to pay between $599 for the iPhone 17 and $799 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
However, the cost will be significantly reduced if users subscribe to the AppleCare+ insurance plan. Specifically, the price to repair a cracked screen or glass is only $29 per case, and $58 if both are damaged. Battery replacement will be completely free, while repairing the rear camera or other malfunctions will only cost $99.
With prices ranging from $99 to $799, Apple is highlighting the clear distinction between out-of-warranty service and the AppleCare+ insurance plan, encouraging users to consider AppleCare+ for long-term repair cost savings. This also demonstrates Apple's strategy of increasing the value of after-sales service alongside its hardware business.
