The consumer price index in Nghe An province decreased slightly in April.

In April 2024, consumer demand for goods and services decreased compared to the previous month; food prices also fell due to lower export rice prices and abundant supply. These are the main reasons why the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April 2024 decreased by 0.04% compared to the previous month.

Compared to the same period in 2023, the CPI in April increased by 6.39%, and the average CPI for the first four months of 2024 increased by 5.76% compared to the same period.

Of the 11 main groups of goods and services, 4 groups saw a decrease in price index compared to the previous month, including: Food and food services (down 0.76%); Clothing, hats, and footwear (down 0.39%); Postal and telecommunications services (down 0.34%); and Beverages and tobacco (down 0.23%).

Five out of eleven commodity groups saw price increases compared to the previous month: Transportation increased by 1.83%; Housing, electricity, water and construction materials increased by 0.22%; Culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.14%; Other goods and services increased by 0.07%; Household equipment and appliances increased by 0.05%.

There are two groups that remained unchanged compared to the previous month: Medicines and medical services; and Education.

On average, in the first four months of 2024, the consumer price index increased by 5.76% compared to the same period last year. Eleven out of eleven commodity groups saw increases: Housing, electricity, water, fuel, and building materials increased by 20.79%; Medicines and medical services increased by 5.57%; Other goods and services increased by 5.33%; Food and catering services increased by 3.92%; Transportation decreased by 3.78%; Beverages and tobacco increased by 3.1%; Culture, entertainment, and tourism increased by 2.22%; Education increased by 1.31%; Household equipment and appliances increased by 0.98%; Clothing, hats, and footwear increased by 0.93%; and Postal and telecommunications services increased by 0.3%.

The gold price index in April 2024 increased by 25.57% compared to the previous month and by 42.44% compared to the same period last year. The average increase for the first four months of 2024 was 19.06% compared to the same period last year. Domestic gold prices fluctuated in line with world gold prices.

The US dollar index rose 0.78% compared to the previous month and 3.1% year-on-year. The average for the first four months of 2024 was a 0.39% increase year-on-year.

In April 2024, Nghe An province's total retail sales of goods and consumer services were estimated at VND 11,273.4 billion, equivalent to 72.58% of the previous month and a 25.75% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first four months of 2024, the total retail sales of goods and consumer services were estimated at VND 51,808.9 billion, a 42.25% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
