The consumer price index in Nghe An province decreased by 0.43% in May.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to the Nghe An Statistics Department, in May 2024, the consumer price index in Nghe An decreased by 0.43% compared to the previous month. Trade and service activities in Nghe An in May and the first five months of 2024 continued to maintain growth momentum.
In May 2024, gasoline and diesel prices were adjusted downwards, consumer demand for goods and services decreased compared to the previous month; food prices also fell due to lower market prices, lower rice export prices, and abundant supply. These factors were the main reasons for the 0.43% decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Nghe An province in May 2024 compared to the previous month.
Among the 11 main groups of goods and services, 6 groups saw a decrease in price index compared to the previous month: Transportation decreased by 2.76%; Culture, entertainment and tourism decreased by 0.24%; Food and catering services decreased by 0.2%; Housing, electricity, water and construction materials decreased by 0.08%; Clothing, hats, shoes and sandals decreased by 0.08%; Beverages and tobacco decreased by 0.04%.
There are two groups of goods whose price indices remained unchanged compared to the previous month: medicines and medical services, and education.
Three groups of goods saw price indices increase compared to the previous month: Household equipment and appliances increased by 0.14%; Other goods and services increased by 0.01%; and Postal and telecommunications services increased by 0.01%.
On average, the consumer price index increased by 5.8% in the first five months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.
Eleven commodity groups saw increases, including: Housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials (up 20.71%); Medicines and medical services (up 5.56%); Other goods and services (up 5.28%); Transportation (down 4.34%); Food and catering services (up 3.88%); Beverages and tobacco (up 2.94%); Culture, entertainment and tourism (up 2.13%); Education (up 1.31%); Household equipment and appliances (up 1.03%); Clothing, hats, caps and footwear (up 0.98%); and Postal and telecommunications services (up 0.19%).
The gold price index in May 2024 increased by 1.3% compared to the previous month and by 39.52% compared to the same period last year. The average for the first five months of 2024 increased by 24.87% compared to the same period last year. Domestic gold prices fluctuated in line with world gold prices.
The US dollar index rose 0.15% compared to the previous month and 5.08% year-on-year. The average for the first five months of 2024 was a 1.48% year-on-year increase.
Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in May 2024 are estimated at VND 10,808.2 billion, equivalent to 92.08% compared to the previous month, and an increase of 12.79% compared to the same period last year. For the first five months of 2024, total retail sales of goods and consumer services are estimated at VND 63,081.2 billion, an increase of 37.12% compared to the same period in 2023.
Retail sales of goods in May 2024 are estimated at VND 8,194.3 billion, accounting for 75.82% of total retail sales of goods and services, and 96.39% compared to the previous month.This represents a 14.72% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first five months of 2024, estimated retail sales of goods reached VND 45,299.5 billion, a 23.66% increase compared to the same period last year.
