((Baonghean) - With a rich tradition spanning 50 years, Tuong Duong 1 High School is a "cradle" for training human resources for the highland and border districts, making worthy contributions to the development of the homeland.

The school was founded in 1965 as Tuong Duong Secondary and High School, located in Xieng Huong village (Xa Luong commune). At that time, the war was entering a fierce phase, the US imperialists were carpet bombing North Vietnam, and teachers and students had to dig tunnels to evacuate.

The opening ceremony of the first school year, with 4 classes (150 students), was held at night, under the light of kerosene lamps to avoid detection and attack by the enemy. As the war intensified, in the 1967-1968 school year, the school had to be evacuated to Con Cuong, then moved to Hoa Binh village in Thach Giam commune (now Hoa Binh town) and renamed Tuong Duong High School. Teachers and students taught while avoiding bombs and bullets, sometimes having to evacuate to Phong village, the Pieng Lung dam area, and then to its current location. The classrooms at that time were entirely made of bamboo, reeds, and leaves.

During this period, teachers and students worked together, burning lime and firing bricks to build the school, digging fish ponds, and cultivating rice and corn to overcome difficulties and participate in the "Two Goods" emulation campaign. With the spirit of overcoming hardship, the school's facilities were gradually improved. By 1986, there were 30 classrooms of level 4 standard, a laboratory, and a teachers' dormitory. Around this time, the number of students from the school who passed entrance exams to universities and colleges also increased significantly.

From 1985 to the present, due to the nature and requirements of each period, the school has changed its name several times. It began with the merger with the Highland Youth School to become Tuong Duong Highland School (1985-1994); then Tuong Duong Ethnic Boarding High School (1995-1999); Tuong Duong Ethnic Boarding High School (1999-2013); and Tuong Duong 1 High School (from 2013 to the present). While the school's name may have varied throughout history, the efforts and determination of teachers and students have always remained strong, and the spirit of overcoming difficulties and striving for excellence has never changed.

Over the past half-century, alongside the development of our homeland and country, Tuong Duong 1 High School has continuously grown stronger and achieved proud accomplishments. With 8 principals, 150 teachers, and over 15,000 students who have worked and studied under this school's roof, all have contributed to writing the glorious and proud tradition of a school in the remote border region. From this school, the tradition of "Unity, discipline, creativity, excellent teaching and learning" has been nurtured and has become a guiding principle for decades.

In particular, mention must be made of the achievements in training ethnic minority cadres for the highland districts, mainly Tuong Duong, Ky Son, and Con Cuong districts. This can be considered the "cradle" of the education sector in Tuong Duong, a beloved home for generations of students and an ideal environment for generations of teachers to train and grow.

Over the past 10 years, the average graduation rate has ranged from 97-100%, and the rate of students admitted to universities and colleges has steadily increased. Each year, approximately 20-30 students win awards at the provincial-level excellent student competition. The school has been honored to receive numerous Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and the Education sector.

Principal Bui Cong Thien stated that the current generation of teachers and students in their 50th year, comprising 77 staff members, teachers, and employees along with 1345 students, deeply cherishes the positive aspects and traditions established by previous generations. This further strengthens their determination to preserve and promote these beautiful traditions, living up to the honor and pride of a school with a 50-year history.

There is still much work to be done, but the immediate goal is to strive to complete our tasks excellently in the coming years so that Tuong Duong 1 High School can be recognized as meeting national standards. To achieve this, we must always keep the flame of passion and aspiration burning, so that we may forever be a source of pride for our people.
