The world's oldest Vespa is worth over 7 billion VND.
Fans of the Italian motorcycle brand will be delighted to know that the world's oldest Vespa is currently being auctioned on the online auction platform Catawiki.
The oldest surviving Vespa scooter will be auctioned off with an estimated price of $270,000 - $324,000 (equivalent to 6.1 to 7.3 billion VND).
The world's oldest Vespa was produced in 1946 in a limited production run of 60, all handcrafted. This particular model, numbered 0, is equipped with a 98cc engine, has chassis number 1003, and was the third Vespa assembled and produced by Piaggio. Currently, models 1001 and 1002 no longer exist.

“Over the years, the Vespa has become Italy’s number one icon,” shared Davide Marelli, Vespa expert at Catawiki auction house. Vespa hopes that this particular Vespa will fall into the hands of a collector or a museum to display for future generations.”
Marelli said: “Like some other vehicles, Vespa scooters become increasingly valuable over time. Due to a huge number of fans, older Vespa scooters tend to increase in value many times over their actual monetary value. For example, a Vespa scooter from the 1970s can be worth five times its original retail price.”

Piaggio was originally a manufacturer of fighter aircraft, but after World War II, they shifted their focus to producing the now-famous scooters. From 1946 onwards, Piaggio became famous for its stylish Italian-made Vespa scooters. In 1953, Audrey Hepburn's film "Roman Holiday" propelled the Vespa to its current dominant position.
According to auction house Catawiki, the Vespa 1003 is still in good working condition. The auction will run until March 28th.
