Hacking Facebook accounts and impersonating acquaintances to scam money from over 400 people.
On the afternoon of August 29th, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police announced that they had discovered five individuals who had used computer networks, telecommunications networks, and electronic devices to commit fraud and embezzle property from over 400 people.
Recently, many victims have reported to the Da Nang City Police about being targeted by fraudsters who used deceptive tactics to gain control of their Facebook accounts and impersonate them to borrow money or scam others out of their funds.
After a period of coordinated investigative measures, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police identified a group of suspects from Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces who were renting houses in Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang City, and frequently visiting internet cafes to engage in criminal activities.

On August 28th, after gathering sufficient documents and evidence, the Criminal Police Department simultaneously raided four locations in the districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Son Tra, and Hai Chau, and summoned five suspects to the station for questioning.
During questioning, the suspects initially admitted to their crimes. According to preliminary investigations, from August 2023 to the present, this group of suspects has defrauded approximately over 400 victims nationwide, stealing a total of more than 1.2 billion VND. All the stolen money was used by the suspects for personal expenses.

On the afternoon of August 29, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police issued an emergency arrest warrant and detained two individuals from the group, Nguyen Khuynh and Le Cong Phi (21 years old, both residing in Quang Tri), while releasing the remaining three on bail while further evidence is gathered for processing according to regulations.
