A Russian-made MiG-29 fighter jet caught fire and burned fiercely on the runway in Belarus while preparing to take off.

The incident occurred at Bobruisk airport, southeast of the capital Minsk, Belarus, on February 23. The MiG-29 engine suddenly caught fire while the plane was speeding down the runway. A video recording this scene recently appeared on the Internet, RT reported on July 15.

In the video, the fighter jet is about to take off when flames appear from the engine. The landing gear is quickly destroyed, causing the plane to slide down the runway.

As the fire raged, the pilot suddenly opened his parachute and jumped out of the cockpit. The plane then turned into a giant fireball. Thick black smoke rose.

Belarus' Defense Ministry praised the fighter pilot for his "wise" actions.
