Dozens of cows belonging to residents of Phu Hau and Phuong Son hamlets (formerly Dong Van commune), now Dai Dong commune (Nghe An province), are trapped on sandbanks in the Lam River, causing great anxiety among the local people. On the morning of July 24th, local authorities were actively working with residents to rescue the herd.

Observations at the Lam River dike section passing through Phu Hau hamlet on the morning of July 24th showed that local authorities and residents were making efforts to rescue the herd of cattle isolated on the sandbank. However, the situation was extremely difficult as the road from the dike to the sandbank had been cut off by floodwaters, the current was strong, and the risk of crossing was very high.

Ms. Le Thi Huong, a resident of Phu Hau hamlet, expressed her concern: "My family has a beef cow that has been stranded in the field since yesterday afternoon. Now we can only rely on the authorities for help, because if the water rises any higher, the risk of it being swept away is very high."

According to Mr. Tran Thanh Nga, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dai Dong commune, although the local authorities had previously informed the people about the rising floodwaters on the Lam River during this period, so that they could proactively take measures to protect their property and livestock, some people were still complacent, resulting in 23 cows belonging to local residents being trapped on a sandbar in the Lam River.

Authorities mobilized four boats along with local residents to herd the cattle back to shore, but were unsuccessful due to the deep and fast-flowing water. The commune instructed the rescue team to wear life jackets to ensure the absolute safety of the people.

"Currently, the water level of the Lam River is less than 1 meter away from the highest point of the sandbar. If we don't rescue them urgently, the entire herd of cattle could be submerged in the floodwaters," Mr. Nga said.

During this period of complex flooding, timely detection and assistance to help people protect their property is extremely necessary. The Dai Dong commune authorities are actively coordinating with the people to find the most effective solution to bring the cattle herd to safety.
