After using drugs in an abandoned shack, one person in the group asked La, "Do you want to buy drugs?" La agreed, so he went home, took 28 million VND, and bought two packets of methamphetamine and three sticks of heroin to use and resell for a profit of 40 million VND.
Because he didn't have enough money, Là asked to pay 28 million VND upfront and defer payment for the rest. During the transaction, Là also asked for an additional packet of drugs for personal use.
The drugs he bought were divided into smaller portions and put into plastic bottles, which he hid under a pile of firewood behind the kitchen. Vi Kham La also sold one packet of drugs for 200,000 dong to a customer.
On November 9th, Vi Kham La's drug trafficking activities were exposed. La was arrested by the police along with evidence including over 150 grams of various types of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the act of buying and selling drugs. Vi Kham La confessed that because he was addicted to drugs, he used money from his family to buy drugs for personal use and to resell for profit.
The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, including young children and a wife serving a prison sentence (also for drug trafficking), to request the court to consider mitigating his sentence.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's criminal act was dangerous to society, and that drugs are the root of all crime, therefore a severe punishment was necessary. After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel of judges sentenced defendant Vi Kham La to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegally trading narcotics.
