Implementing the aquaculture extension model, the Quỳnh Lưu District Agricultural Extension Station selected Mr. Hồ Ngọc Thắng's household in Quỳnh Đôi commune as a pilot project to release whiteleg shrimp fry into a netted pond with an area of 0.3 hectares.
The stocking density in the net-covered ponds is 115 shrimp/m2, using shrimp fry produced by CP Vietnam Aquaculture Joint Stock Company (CP shrimp fry). The expected time from stocking to harvest is 3 months, with shrimp reaching a size of 60-70 shrimp/kg. The pilot model of shrimp farming in net-covered ponds receives 100% of the shrimp fry and 30% of the feed costs from the province.
Shrimp farming using shade nets helps reduce costs such as environmental treatment, water aeration system maintenance, feed waste, improves shrimp growth, prevents and controls shrimp diseases, and protects shrimp from heat stress.
